Grow Your Blog Day

Good Day All!

Welcome to all my new Internet Friends who are also participating in Grow Your Blog Day!

First off, my name really is Kathy.  I have the privilege of having lived my entire life in Western Canada.  Currently I live in Edmonton with my husband, son, rescue dog, and rescue cat.  I have lived in Alberta for nearly 22 years but still consider myself as being from Saskatchewan.  GO RIDERS GO, and quite frequently break into singing Green is the Colour.

I also have the privilege of being employed in my childhood dream job; a Registered Nurse!  Since the age of two I wanted to be an Emergency Room Nurse (long before the show about this).  However, at a very young age I was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes and over the years seem to have knack (I've been told) of being able to educate others on how to live with diabetes.

In  my career I have been a PICU RN, a Home Care RN, a Certified Diabetes Educator, and an Urgent Care RN.  At present I get to do two of my passions; Diabetes and Urgent Care.  As such you will never find direct pictures of myself or my family on my blog.

I started my blog a few year back to be able to show my friends near and far all the stuff that I make.  I love to be able to create things; whether it is food, yarn, fabric, cross stitch or paper crafted.  I  pretty much love all crafts except for Crochet \: {  (I have a HATE relationship with that craft).

Originally I had planned to have a super awesome project to share with you all today, but since I have lost the battle to a head cold all I was able to accomplish was 2 more blocks on my Raise the Roof quilt:

Here is the context of what I have completed so far on this project:
Now, I am off to snuggle under a quilt with some tea, cold medication and my Tablet to read all the blogs participating in this event!

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Kathy

p.s.

Questions I often get asked about Edmonton and the answers:

1.  Is Edmonton cold?

- Yes.  You will often see my winter posts referring to Snowpocalypse.  Except for today, it is + 5 Celsius (41 Fahrenheit).

2.  Are the drivers bad?

- Yes.  You will see several accidents and near misses daily, and learn rules of the road you never new existed.

3.  Are the roads bad?

- Yes.  You will need at least yearly wheel alignments on your car, and a new windshield as loose rocks are placed on the road surface in winter and in the potholes during the summer.

4.  Are the people friendly?

- Yes.  All the benefits of a big city, but also a small town feel. I always run into people that I have to stop and chat with and not just in my own neighborhood,

5.  Do I know your cousin Henry from Toronto?

No.

  5. Following! :) I found your blog on the party list. :)

I have just recently started quilting. It's really tedious! You're so good at it. My project is halfway cut and sitting in a bag on a shelf in my dinning room. (lol)

    1. Welcome Lacie! I spend a fair bit of time in MT so you will even find pictures here of your home state ☺ Quilting is quite exacting, and that is what makes me love it, I am kind of a perfectionist, and focused on skills person. Hope I can help inspire you to take the project off the shelf. My son LOVES the quilts I make. ☺ Which of your blogs is most current?

  6. New follower on GFC, Bloglovin' and by email (I think) from Grow Your Blog! On behalf of Vicki, the hostess from "2 Bags Full", welcome to the party!

PICU is that like ICU for infants, or...? My daughter was born 2 months premature and we were extremely impressed with the care she received in the NICU (neonatal ICU) in Ft. Worth, TX.

When my husband's paternal grandmother passed two years ago, we received several quilts that had been made in her youth, and they are treasures! And there are s.c.a.d.s. of scrap fabric and some pre-cut shapes.

Your work is GORGEOUS! Several blocks remind me of a "Lincoln's Cabin" (?) block. I forget what it is called actually. I really hope your work is displayed somewhere or on sale because ... WOW!

    1. Thanks for stopping by LuAnn. Glad to hear that everything went well for your daughter. NICU and PICU RN's are pretty special I think. In answer to your question; PICU is any child from birth (if they have been discharged from hospital after birth, or require heart surgery to fix congenital malformations) up to 1 day short of their 18th birthday. I worked mostly with the neonates who required heart surgery, but a few traumatic injuries as well. After my son was born I could not go back to that although I miss the intensiveness of the job. ER/Urgent Care will have to do for now.

  10. Hello, Sandy and I am retired and I crochet and knit. I already read that you 'hate' crochet, so I am afraid to leave you my link! There are a lot of things I don't care for too, but since there are so many ladies out there that do so many wonder little things with their free time, I try very hard to be appreciative of the craft they choose even so it may not be my preference. I see you do some very lovely work, and one day I hope to be able to make a beautiful quilt too. I do love to sew! Your blog is just beautiful. Sandy

    1. ☺ Sandy I love everyone's work and appreciate everyone who stops by here. I have simply been defeated by crochet and I don't do well with failure. I may give it a try again though as I see you have videos on how to make your pretty flowers.

  14. LOL to question 5. Recently an acquaintance told me her daughter had moved to a nearby suburb (from Sydney, Aus). I half heartedly asked where, as I knew she was dying to give me chapter & verse, and then nearly fell off the chair as this girl had moved next door to very good friends of min. Not only that but she goes to my daughter's church and had spoken to my daughter the previous week.
    Hope you get better soon.
