One Day At a Time....

Good Late Evening Internet Friends!

Today was the first day since Christmas Vacation started that my son and I were up at a civilized hour.  We even went to bed on time last night.

The reason; we were making a road trip to my friend Julie's farm for the day and staying for dinner.  Julie lives on a farm about an hour away from us.  There are two quilt stores, a craft store, a bakery and a kitchen store that I stop by when travelling to her farm so we needed to leave in early enough time to get to these places as well.

I will show you some of these treasures in the next few days but alas, have not yet taken pictures.

Julie lives on a mixed farm with the more of the emphasis being on cattle.  Of course this means butchering the cattle for meat.  I always pet the cattle when I'm out there which of course they (cattle included) look at me like I'm nuts.  I thankfully grew up with dairy cows so petting and hugging them is totally regular.

The last butchering that they did they remembered that I have a giant dog.  So they saved four Maverick sized dog bones:

Maverick is so EXCITED!!!!  He has four cow legs to chew on and no other pet can take these away from him!!  ☺

Since I was still wide awake when we got home I decided to make Block 17 of my Scandi 3 quilt.  Still trying to see if I can get this done before I go back to work....

Now it's off to bed for a long sleep hopefully as I did not have a nap today....

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Weekend at the Farm

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Saturday afternoon we headed out to the farm.  I stayed up late/early Saturday to make marshmallows as the fire ban is off and we could have a camp fire ☺

So Delicious in s'mores! ☺

I set up my sewing machine and a couple of quilt kits and supplies that I brought for my summer farm projects:

Then I spent the rest of the time in the garden.  This is the garden I planted 2 weeks ago:

The potatoes are up and doing well.

Beans

Purple Mustard Greens

Onions

One pumpkin as the gopher appears to have eaten the other,,,,,I found the root and the original seed, but nothing else!

Spaghetti Squash

Kiddo and puppy trying to dig a hole to China ☺

After dinner we headed home.

Good night from the farm and hope this inspires your own creativity...

Shhhhh, Monday's coming

Good Evening Internet Friends.

So, this afternoon we packed up from the farm and headed back home.

Before packing up though my son and I took the boat out on the slough....

We checked out all the various water foul homes, they just ignore us by now.   Lost a paddle for a bit in the weeds but carefully managed to maneuver the boat over and retrieve it.

I also managed to finish the quilt top that I have been working on at the farm today:

And, here's a picture with the cleared trail to my son's hide out spots:

I have already booked to take this quilt in to be long armed later this week, so just might be able to get the binding done on it soon!

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

At the Farm again. ...

Yesterday morning I loaded up the car and my son and I headed out to the farm on an extended road trip.

We stopped in Ponoka, Lacombe and Blackfalds for of course you guessed it; Fabric!  I will post pictures  of my new stash additions when I get home tomorrow  or Monday.

Today I weeded  the garden some and dug up some of the veggies to take home and can or freeze this week:

After dinner I worked on my Jelly roll quilt.  I had the main part of the quilt done but thanks to a trip to my new friend Sharon's house earlier this week I was able to get a border from her awesome stash and the outer border fabric as well:
It's cat fabric!!!!

Okay, here is the quilt:

This evening we decided to have a camp fire as well:

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

And the weekend is over.....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

The weekend is over and we are back at home.  Kiddo has skateboard and swimming lessons this week.  Hubby heads back to work this week and I next week.  Seems like summer is just TOOOOOOOO short.

This weekend I spent most of my time at the farm getting my garden cleaned out.  I had not tended to it in a month (okay, 27 days).  The weeds were quite heavy, but seems like they held up the plants! ☺

Today we even put up a lattice for the peas, and now as long as I tend to it maybe a little more carefully, it will all turn out okay:

Yesterday evening I cut up my Pam Kitty Garden fat quarter bundle that I had picked up at Sew Divine last week:
Today I sewed all the strips together and the plan is to assemble the blocks next weekend out at the farm because of course the garden will not take me as long ☺  ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Best Day Ever Saturday

Good Evening Internet Friends.

It is late Saturday evening and of course I am still up.  Today my son and I headed out to spend the weekend at the acreage.  Road trip! Yay.

Before we could head out though I attended the Sylvia Olsen Great Canadian Knitting Tour.  She is a fabulous teacher and a wonderful story teller.  Here is what I have started and I got another kit with red wool to make another of these toques:

After class we headed out to the acreage.  There had been rain today so we did have to do a little mudding.  After dinner we headed out for a walk to see what was new.  The pond/swamp/bog looked really pretty with the sun setting:

Now off to bed cause I have big crafting plans for tomorrow!

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Part 6 A of Brandy's Quilt

Did not do much quilting or crafting this weekend.
We went out to the acreage yesterday to see how things were coming along.  I fully intended to knit on the way but after the week of work I had last week, I ended up sleeping most of the fifty five minute drive.  I did wake and take some pictures when we turned off Highway 21:

It was so beautiful!
Not quite as wide open as I like, but at least there is farm land and tractors!
On the way back we stopped in Camrose for ice cream and the view along the creek was so pretty I had to take another picture:
I did of course stop at the quilt store there and I will take a picture and show you the "finds" I got.
After dinner I sat down and managed to get Step 6 A of the Mi Vida Loca quilt I am making for my friend Brandy.
Maybe tomorrow, I can get Step 6 B and C done ; )

Strawberry Adventure # 3

The last thing that I did to finish using up all of the strawberries from the weekend, was to make Strawberry Marmalade.   I LOVE the taste of this marmalade, and love making and gifting it because no one really knows what to expect the first time they taste it, but after that, you are addicted to it!
I have not included a recipe for it, because it is a kind of you have to see how to make it and what it should look like, to know how to make it sort of things.... really.
Here are the jars straight out of the canner!  Apparently I forgot to wipe the tops before I took the picture!
I can hardly wait to try some!
Hope this inspires your own creativity....

Kathy

p.s. the jars on the right just have the light shining through the window straight on them, all jars are really the same color ; )

Strawberry Adventure # 2

After making the Strawberry Shortcake, we got a little more adventurous today with out strawberry baking.
Today we made Strawberry Pie!
I forgot to take a picture with the whipped cream on top before dinner, but you will just have to trust me, it was DELICIOUS!
Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Road Trip Adventures!

Today my son and I set off from home with the intent of strawberry picking in Central Alberta.
Our first stop of course was at Prairie Points Quilt Shop in Ponoka.
Here is all of my "finds" from there:
I LOVE this store!
From Ponoka we headed to Billyco Junction to pick strawberries.  We had a blast.  The strawberries were perfect and in less than an hour we had a full bucket.
Then we headed to the Ellis Bird Farm that Lynn from Prairie Points Quilt Shop had told us about.
This was a wonderful place to spend the remainder of the afternoon.
My son got to see:
 and play with:

and as we drove away:
It was a great afternoon!
Hope this inspires your own creativity, and sense of adventure...
