Back to School Eve...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Well, it is almost 2200 hours and the house is quiet once again.  The back pack is hung by the door with new shoes, binder, pencils you name it.  The lunch box is on the cupboard and the refrigerator is stocked for back to school lunches tomorrow.  The new clothes have been washed and are in the dryer already to be worn tomorrow ☺

I am always sad on the first day of school but this year as I watch my baby get ready for Grade 7 I am a little more sad.....where did the time go......???

This morning before he got up (I let him sleep in one last day) I spent a bit of time in my Craft Room because it is quasi clean.  For the past few weeks I have noticed that Hello Kitty spends an inordinate amount of time in front of the dishwasher....could the dust bunnies really be that big for him to be hunting them.....?  After taking out the trash I decided that I would dig around down and behind the water lines under the sink and see what I could see.  HOLY HANNA, I found the motherload of mouse droppings!  I HATE mice, I am not scared of them, I just find them to be vile and disgusting creatures that should not be in my house.

After cleaning that up with more cleaner than necessary I decided to go investigate my craft room as Hello Kitty also likes to site and peer under my sewing desk.  Oh horror, could there be a mouse in there as well?  I took absolutely everything out of my craft room, vacuumed, dusted and washed the floors and thankfully NO sign of mouse ☺  After everything was put away the whole room looked organized "sew" this morning I took some time for me and worked on a Quilt Kit that I requested:

There will one more navy and white stripe sets at the base of this quilt below the red and a few more at what is the top of the quilt.  It will be 80" x 80" of a flannel quilt that I intend to back with Navy Minky.

Since I have not linked up recently with The Needle and Thread Network and their Work In Progress Wednesday I will hop over there now and see what all everyone is making at this time of year!

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Work In Progress Wednesday

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Half way through the work week ♫

This evening I took out my Raise The Roof quilt and made another two of the log cabin blocks:
Not sure how many I have completed and or how many more to make, but at this time I am just focusing on getting to the bottom of that bag of half square triangle center squares sitting on my desk ☺

Since it is Wednesday I figured it was time to participate in The Needle and Thread Network's weekly Work In Progress Wednesday. Make sure to check out some of the neat projects over there.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

April Fool's????

Good Evening Internet Friends!

I awoke this morning to my April Fool's joke:
Seriously??????  I thought that we were done with snow til the May long weekend!

On our travels over the past few days I worked on a pair of socks for my husband.  I am making these in the Vancouver colorway of the River City Yarns Hat Trick yarns.  I started the second sock Monday evening in Helena and while on the ride home managed to get this far:
TAH DAH!

If I keep can on focus hopefully I will have these done in time for next week!

Since it Wednesday I decided that I should check in with my friends over at The Needle and Thread Network for Work in Progress Wednesday.  Take the time to check out some of the projects and the puppy over there ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Work In Progress Wednesday!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Shhhhhh, now, don't let the cat out of the bag (especially the staffing office) but I have TWO consecutive days off now without work!  I don't even plan to work any overtime!
The city of Edmonton is currently under a snow fall warning and since I am off for two whole days and have lots of housework and quilting planned I decided to stop and pick up a few groceries on the way home this evening.  Was super proud of myself because I went to Superstore and even remembered to take my re-usable shopping bags.  As I finished emptying the bag, this is what I discovered.  Fresh cat?

This evening I decided to do a little more quilting and link up with Work In Progress Wednesday over at The Needle and Thread Network since I have not done that in a while.  Check out the link as there are some really talented people over there.

I am still working away on my Raise the Roof quilt and managed to get another three of these blocks completed this evening:
TAH DAH!

No idea how many more I have to make, will just keep making them until I run out of half square center pieces ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Work In Progress Wednesday

Good Evening Internet Friends!

My Work in Progress for participating in The Needle and Thread Network Work In Progress Wednesday is a toque that I started in the middle of September!

Progress has been slow on this pattern as it has multiple colors on it and I am frequently getting the yarns knotted around each other:
I ordered this kit from Knit Picks this summer in the hopes that if I knit the hat myself I would be able to wear a toque.  It gets really cold here in Western Canada come winter and I have a really big head (seriously, not just ego) that makes wearing most head gear very difficult.

This is as far as I have gotten.  Hope to be able to get it finished soon as the temperature is dropping quickly ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Work In Progress Wednesday

Good Evening Internet Friends!
Wow, it's Wednesday, and somehow I have not had time to blog yet this week ☺

So far other than work this week (no extra shifts this week), I have managed to get Step 2 of my Prairie Quilt Militia quilt done (I think I'm supposed to be on Step 6).

Here is Step 2:
Once again, all of the fabrics for this quilt are coming from going "shopping" in my stash!  I love "shopping" in my stash.  I seem to be able to find just the "best" fabrics there ; )

Since it is Wednesday I am going to participate in Work in Progress Wednesday over at The Needle and Thread Network.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Work In Progress Wednesday

Good Evening Internet Friends.

I have decided to participate in The Needle and Thread Network'sWork In Progress Wednesday.

I have finally completed my own version of the Mi Vida Loca mystery quilt:
As you will notice Hello Kitty a.k.a "Fun Kitty" has already homesteaded on this quilt!!!
I have allowed him to continue to lay there as a quilt with a cat purring on it seemed to be somewhat comforting with regards to the events of today.  It really is the simple things in life.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Work in Progress Wednesday

Good Evening Internet Friends!
Since it is Wednesday I decided I would participate in Work in Progress Wednesday over at The Needle and Thread Network.
Earlier this evening I got around to sewing the blocks together for the Mi-Vida-Loca mystery quilt that I participated in earlier this year.
This is the second quilt of this pattern I am making:
The border still needs to be added, but at least I can pretend I am almost caught up....
Still have to put the top together on version one of this quilt that is going to be a wedding present....

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Work in Progress Wednesday! Summer Vacation Day 62!

I am up early this morning thanks to having an orthodontist appointment for my son.  My son has inherited the same crooked tooth that I have.  I will let your imagination run with that image, it's not quite hideous, but almost.  Apparently this particular tooth is a genetic thing, a couple of my mom's cousins have this "feature" as well.  Hence, I am going to stop the occurrence of this tooth in my son's smile.
Late last evening while the beans were a chilling, look what I completed:
These are the Oiler's Inspired wool socks that I knit for my brother.  Since it is Wednesday and I am even up early on a vacation day I am going to link up with The Needle and Thread Network.
Reports so far today have been that these are "comfy" socks and feel like they really fit his foot.  Hmmm, Imagine!
Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Work In Progress Wednesday; Summer Vacation Day 20!

Good Evening Internet Friends!
Today I felt better and was awake for long enough between antihistamine doses to close the toe on the first of the socks I am making for my brother:
Here is one completed sock from the Hockey Night in Canada Edmonton Oiler's inspired yarn!  I am pretty pleased with it and so is he!  Even though the team is not what it once was when we were growing up in central Saskatchewan, there is still a sense of pride and nostalgia in these colors ☺  It was our closest hockey team!
Since it is Wednesday I decided it was about time to link up with The Needle and Thread Network.
Now, off to work on the other sock and try to quit singing The Oil's Back in Town.
Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Work In Progress Wednesday

Good Evening Internet Friends!
It has been a long time since I have been home on a Wednesday and able to participate in Work In Progress Wednesday over at The Needle and Thread Network.
This evening I was able to finish Step 6 C of the Mi Vida Loca Facebook Mystery Quilt I am currently working on. The plan is that this quilt will be finished in time for my friend Brandy's wedding.
Here is Step 6 C:
To give you an idea as to the size of this project, the center 4 patch blocks are 2 1/2" square!
Now, off to see what else I can get into when I actually have a free evening ☺
Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Step 4 of Brandy's Quilt

Good Evening Internet Friends.
I am well aware it is late (red eye crafting), but I am very pleased with myself as I was able to finish Step 4 of my Mi Vida Loca quilt I am making for my friend Brandy's wedding:
Here we have 50, 2 1/2", 4 patch blocks!
Since this is really a Work In Progress I am going to link up this week again with The Needle and Thread Network.
Now, off to check the site for some cool creations and get to bed!
Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Work In Progress Wednesday

Good Evening Internet Friends!
Hard to believe it is already Wednesday.  Not sure where the week has gone, but worked more overtime, and yesterday evening had a semi-annual meeting with an advisory group committee that I volunteer on that I have never missed attending, yet last night almost did not go.  I did in the end and of course was glad I did but today seemed long as well.
I did manage to get the last 4 of these 124 small blocks done though this evening:
Since I don't already have enough projects on the go right now, I decided that I would make myself my own version of the Mi Vida Loca mystery quilt.  I am actually making two of these quilts; one for a friend's wedding, and one for myself!
Since it is Wednesday, I also figured I should participate in Work In Progress Wednesday over at The Needle and Thread Network!
Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Work In Progress Wednesday

Good Evening Internet Friends.
I have been a little on the delinquent side with my crafting/blogging for the past few days as my life has been occupied with working over time, and having had an epi-pen day (sad face).
Since it snowed (again) today and there appears to be NO chance of spring arriving any time soon, I decided this evening that I felt well enough to sit up and knit on my November Knit Along (correct, not a typo).  It seemed like a completely reasonable thing to do because I will likely be able to finish this project and get some wear out of it before spring arrives!
I love how the detail shows up in the picture and makes the effort all the more worthwhile!
I am going to link up again with Work In Progress Wednesday over at The Needle and Thread Network!
Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Work In Progress Wednesday

Good Evening Internet Friends.  I am participating again this week in Work In Progress Wednesday over at The Needle and Thread Network.
This weekend we road tripped down to Whitefish, Montana.  I love the area, it's just so pretty, and there are several awesome quilt shops within "sneezing" distance.  Yes, of course I stopped in ; )
On the way down though, I knitted, and here is what I completed in a few hours:
The rest of the trip was spent playing car games with my son and enjoying the scenery:
Somewhere in the Middle of Montana?  Yes it was snowing/raining at the time of this picture : )
Here are the locals who were also staying at the same resort:
My son enjoyed taking pictures of these locals everyday, they would come right up to the cabin to check in on us I think.
Lastly, the road used to access the cabin we were staying in!!  This is actually the good portion!  The rest of the road was too bumpy to get a good picture, and we were not sure that if we stopped the car we would be able to get going again, as the tracks ahead were soft, squishy MUD!!!!
Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Kathy

p.s.  Will post some of my finds over the next few days as I unpack : )

Turkey Sock

I have decided it is time to participate in Work In Progress Wednesday over at The Needle and Thread Network simply because this forces me to get things done!  It is only Wednesday, but it feels like the week should be over!!!  Alas, two more days til the weekend.
This evening I did sit down for a bit and knit, but it is now well past my bedtime, so I will quit.
I am still trying to finish sock # 2 of my November Sock Yarn Club.  This yarn is something to do with the "turkey", (the color way I think), hence why I am calling these my Turkey Socks!
Here is the second one, almost completed:
Now, off to bed!
Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Work In Progress Wednesday

I have decided to participate in Work in Progress Wednesday over at The Needle and Thread Network.
I started this project late last night when for some reason I could not sleep:
It's a child's quilt pattern and kit that I picked up last fall at Prairie Points Quilt Shop.  I love this quilt store and the hour drive is always worth the time.
All the individual pieces are sewn together, now just to sew the rows!
Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Work In Progress Wednesday

Good Evening Internet Friends!!
I'm back!!  I have been delinquent on my blogging over the past few days (got hives from something I ate at a restaurant this last weekend, and had to make a trip to my local emergency department for a migraine that would NOT get better yesterday !!!).
I am going to participate in the Work In Progress Wednesday  over at The Needle and Thread Network because it pushes me to get "stuff" done.
I am trying to finish my Downton Abbey Mystery Quilt Along and I think that I might be closing in on that:
This quilt is huge, so even on the queen size spare bed it does not show up all the blocks.  I think I will have to take it outside to the frozen lawn when I am all done, as each of the corners has a set of blocks that all "tell" the story that this quilt is based on!
Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Work In ProgressWednesday

Hello Internet Friends!
I decided to participate in the Work In Progress Wednesday again over at The Needle and Thread Network.
I was actually hoping to have this sock done, but I still have to graft the toe:
This is actually my November Yarn from my Sock Yarn of the Month Club from Sweet Georgia Yarns.
One sock done, one more to go!
Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Work in Progress Wednesday

Good Evening Internet Friends!  I am going to participate in the Work In Progress Wednesday again this week!
As some of you may know I tend to dive head long in to projects and then it seems to take me a while to get them done.
Hence today's project, and probably a few more over the next few days.  I have decided to get all those partly finished quilts, and by partly finished I mean quilt tops done, but I have been too lazy to get the backings on and get them ready to go to the long arm quilter.
This past weekend, along with all my "mom" activities and working evenings over time, I did manage to get some of this accomplished, but because of work have neglected my blog.  I will also admit that I do not recuperate from shift work like I did when I first started nursing almost 20 years ago!  WOW. That makes me feel OLD!!!
Anyways, here is one of the quilts that I completed:
The horizontal fabric strips were picked up a couple of years ago at The Chicken Coop in the metropolis of Mundare, Alberta.  There are two reasons to stop in this town: first of course the quilt store, second the bakery in town has poppy seed buns, these buns of course are NO comparison to the ones back home, but they come close and are not nine hours away ; )
The outer green border was picked up this past weekend at Prairie Points Quilt Shop in Ponoka, Alberta on my road trip.
The backing for this quilt is flannel Strawberry Shortcake (but old school, because that is what my dollies are) that I bought at Glacier Quilts on a ski trip a couple years back.  Can't wait til March when we will be there again (skiing of course ; )
Hope this inspires your own creativity...
