Block 14 ♫

Good Morning Internet Friends!

Not sure where this week went.  I am posting right now as I am off for a nap.  Yesterday was my day off (supposedly).  I agreed to pick up my brother and take him to an appointment as he is super busy right now with getting heavy equipment in and out of the Alberta fires right now.  Plus, he promised to take me for lunch!

Then I got the call that work was short an RN for night shift : (...  two hours later when absolutely no one else would agree, I agreed.  A quick late afternoon nap, dinner for the family and off to work.

Made breakfast when I got home this morning, then sort of thought I should do something in my craft room this morning before my nap "sew" I made another Churn Dash Block.
This is Block 14 of the 21 blocks I should have done by now ☺

Hopefully I can get another one done tomorrow.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Slow Day? Sew Day?

Good Evening Internet Friends!

I awoke in the middle of the night to an ill child.  So, today was a stay at home kind of day.

After sleeping late a breakfast of scrambled eggs, toast and gingerale was served.  Followed by lots of television watching.  I learned all sorts of things about measurements today.

While he slept and watched television I sewed the binding on my Mi Vida Loca Quilt which at any given time served as a quilt over him.

My new friend Brenda did the long arm quilting on this one:
It's an all over flower pattern and looks very soft on here.

This afternoon when the mail arrived I got a package that I had hoped would arrive for National Nursing Week:

Now, to decide exactly what to do with this half yard cuts ☺

Block 13 ♫

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Well, back to work today.  By the time I got home, made dinner, ran the dishwasher and did a load of laundry it was getting late.

My project for today was to make another Churn Dash Block for the Churn Dash Challenge I am participating in over at A Needle Pulling Thread Quilt Shop.

This week is Week 21 and I have so far made Number 13 (YAY ME!):

TAH DAH!

Now, off to bed.  Tomorrow is another day...

Busy, Busy, Busy...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

That was an expression that my Grandma Sadie always used.  Sometimes I feel like her, especially this weekend.

Friday evening my son and I went to Coffee Talk, an event my friend Karina hosts for her group of Stampin' Up demonstrators.  Somehow I still have not lost my demonstrator status ☺
I will show the cards another day as I still have not taken pictures of them!

Saturday we took a road trip stopping at Prairie Points Quilt Shop for some fabric to finish a couple of current quilts.  I also wanted to show Lynn the place mats I made using a bird fabric panel I had picked up there a couple of months ago:

Then we headed on out to the farm for the night.

I checked on the garden.  The strawberries, rhubarb and lavender are fine.

In the garden some of the plants have even sprouted out through the dirt.  A few of the potatoes are clear of the dirt, their entire diameter about the size of a Loonie!

While I was weeding out the obvious weeds this critter was chattering at me the entire time, so I took a picture of him:

We came home in time today to get groceries at Costco and I got some petunias, dahlias and Martha Washington Geraniums for the flower pots and bed at home:

Then it was time for dinner.  We had Taco's as the other day I found these Tortilla Bowls here locally (not something I brought back from one of my USA trips)! ☺

Then it was time for a bike ride and then get ready for bed as tomorrow starts another school and work week!

Work In Progress Wednesday...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Well, as motivation to get "something" done or at least on task I have decided to participate in Work In Progress Wednesday over at The Needle and Thread Network ☺

About three weeks ago I was yarn shopping (because yes I need more) at River City Yarns.  Now, as you may know from following my blog, I am a great fan of Sweet Georgia Yarns.  I had received my shipment of yarns from there only a few days earlier but while in River City Yarns that day I found Wisteria, CashSilk Lace.  OMG!!!  It is like a little cloud of wonderful softness! ☺

Well, I had to have it.  I found a pattern on Ravelry for a cute little scarf called CashSilk Fern Scarf and have been knitting away ever since (other than my quilting, making the toque this weekend and two pairs of socks....):
TAH DAH!

Someday.....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Today of course was back to reality; work, breakfast, lunch and dinner preparations, garbage day and house work!!!

Thankfully I made banana muffins at midnight last night as I found out this morning that we had no bread in the house for sandwiches.  Lunch was banana muffins and cheese along with strawberries and grapes ☺

At lunch today I went for a walk in one of the local parks and the scenery was beautiful with the lilacs and the apple trees in bloom.

After dinner my son and I went for a bike ride over to one of the community gardens where a colleague of mine has planted her garden.

After my son went to bed and all the household chores were completed I made another Churn Dash Block for the Churn Dash Challenge that I am participating in with A Needle Pulling Thread Quilt Shop.  Here is Block 12 (this is week 20):

Here are all 12 that I have completed "sew" far":

DOH!!!! Long Weekend Over Already

Good Evening Internet Friends!

So, the Victoria Day Long Weekend is over.  As my son put it though it is still a bonus, because not only did we get a long weekend, but now we have a short week!.  Alright, try to look at this positively...

The weather forecast for the farm last night was - 4 degrees Celsius (25 F)!  Most of my plants had not yet surfaced so I figured that they would be okay in their dirt bed, but what about the strawberries, rhubarb and lavender.  I spent most of yesterday afternoon fretting about this until I was cutting off the edges of my quilt to put on the binding.  As I pulled off those long rows of bamboo batting I realized that since it makes quilts nice and warm that I could probably make a quilt for my plants. ☺

A quick trip to town to the Peavy Mart for some tarps and I made the best sleeping bag ever for my garden:

Today when I unwrapped everything I found:

The neighbor lost 23 of his tomato plants : (, wasn't using bamboo quilt batting is my guess.

Last evening I finished my Sylvia Olsen toque:

It kept my head warm last night while I brought all the flower pots in to the 5th wheel for the night!

Still need to block it, but it is very cozy and I will be knitting a few more of these in my future I think...

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Best Day Ever Saturday

Good Evening Internet Friends.

It is late Saturday evening and of course I am still up.  Today my son and I headed out to spend the weekend at the acreage.  Road trip! Yay.

Before we could head out though I attended the Sylvia Olsen Great Canadian Knitting Tour.  She is a fabulous teacher and a wonderful story teller.  Here is what I have started and I got another kit with red wool to make another of these toques:

After class we headed out to the acreage.  There had been rain today so we did have to do a little mudding.  After dinner we headed out for a walk to see what was new.  The pond/swamp/bog looked really pretty with the sun setting:

Now off to bed cause I have big crafting plans for tomorrow!

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

At Two O'Clock in the Morning.....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

I was singing these words at 0200 hours this morning when I finally got all the pieces and borders assembled and sewn onto this quilt.

As you can see in this not very good picture (remember 0200 hours - neither camera or I were awake) one of my quilting buddies decided that it was time to take a rest, and since I was "sew" tired I even let him pause there for a bit:

Here the quilt is by morning light on its way to get quilted:

After picking up extra wide flannel backing at Woodland Quilting and also picking up my version of this quilt that I had sent out to be long armed we headed over to Sparrow Studioz for me to do the quilting.  The staff there were super helpful ☺  I had taken a learn to long arm class there last summer but never had the time to go back sooner, so essentially had forgotten everything I had been taught!

Getting quilted:
My son took a turn doing a row of stitching.  It's his contribution to this quilt since it is a Wedding Present for my friend ☺

All Done!

I am "sew" super chuffed with myself right now for having done this.  I have never long armed before and I did the entire quilt which makes me "sew" happy that every stitch in this quilt has been done by me (or my son)!  ♫

Churning Out Another....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Well so far it has been a busy week and the first time this week that I have had a couple of minutes to myself! ☺

After getting my son to bed I quickly went and assembled another Churn Dash Block for the Churn Dash Challenge that I decided to participate in with A Needle Pulling Thread Quilt Shop.

Here is tonight's accomplishment:
TAH DAH!

Okay, now off to sleep as tomorrow is another BIG day.  ☺ ♫

Happy Mother's Day

Good Evening Internet Friends!

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day.

We decided to head out to the acreage today.  For the past couple of years we have been using the big Honda generator out there but this year we have sprung for the electrical to be run into the yard.  YAY Power!

While my husband worked on that my son and I did some gardening.  It is not a big garden by any means, but enough for a kid to dig holes in and see some vegetables grow.  We planted Lavender, Rhubarb, Strawberries, Garlic, Onions, Lettuce, Carrots, Peas, Beans (green and yellow), Beets, Purple Potatoes, Red Potatoes, Corn, Zucchini, Squash and Pumpkins!
We picked everything up at Peavy Mart (inlcuding the pinwheel flower) because they are 100% Western Canadian, but more importantly the staff are friendly and helpful! ☺

Of ocurse we wandered around some this afternoon checking out the rabbits, birds, birds in the pond/slough:

We ate dinner before heading back to the city.  The pond looked very pretty as we were eating dinner:

While laundry was being done this evening I worked on another one of my Churn Dash Blocks that I am participating in with A Needle Pulling Thread Quilt Shop:

A very lovely and peaceful day.

Great Big Fat Day of NOTHING!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

I hope your day was as non exciting as mine.

The morning started off with my son annoying the cat:
Hello Kitty sat on the couch for quite a while before he decided to venture out in the house with his decorations.  Eventually he did lose them somewhere. ☺

For lunch I made Salmon Quiche and Caesar Salad:
There is no recipe to go along with this as it is made up as I went.  Somehow the cream froze in the back of the fridge.  Some mouse (you know who you are) ate the last of the Swiss Cheese, and all but one mushroom was gone!

After lunch my son and I walked over to Be A Bella for random amounts of candy.  We stopped at the park to play on the way since the day was beautiful.

When we returned home I sewed the binding on one of my quilts that I finished maybe last summer (maybe earlier) but had not yet put the binding on.  I sewed on the binding and then after dinner this evening hand stitched the binding to the backing.  I wanted to complete it today so that I can take it to the Fifth Wheel tomorrow when I go out to the acreage to plant the garden ☺:
TAH DAH!

Friday Feature Card

Good Evening Internet Friends!

It has somehow been a long week even though I had yesterday off to attend dental and medical appointments (maybe that's what made it long).

This evening after dinner I actually took some time to do some crafting.  It has somehow been a long time since I took the time to sit down and do some of my paper crafting.  I realized earlier today that I am completely out of birthday cards of any kind.

So, this evening I sat down and made 10 birthday cards.  In typical Kathy fashion there is nothing on these cards that is current product from Stampin' Up.  Seriously! ♫ ☺
Oh well, hopefully none of recipients of these cards will mind.  My friend Lynn's birthday was last week and since I will be seeing her this weekend she will be the first to get one of these ☺

Earlier in the week here in Edmonton we found out really and truly Hell Freezes Over.  I took this picture of my street this morning:
It did look pretty though.....

Tick Tock, Tick Tock.....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

For those of you that have been following my blog for a while now you will know that my dear friend Brandy is getting married this summer.  Over a year ago I started a quilt for the occaision.  In typical Kathy fashion though I sewed all the blocks, but seemed to have no motivation to sew the blocks together until tonight.

Here is the center part of the quilt.  This quilt is one of the two that I did for the Mi Vida Loca mystery quilt.  The side borders and pieced units are still to be put on, but at least the center is complete:
I have to admit that although I get "SEW" frustrated with the instructions for these quilts, I do always enjoy the end product.  Now, here's hoping that I can get it quilted before mid July ♫

If A Quilt Falls on the Floor.....

Good Evening Internet Friends.

It's the middle of the week so not much time for quilting today.

I did manage however to sew on row six of my previous Prairie Quilt Militia mystery quilt.  This is that one that has been frustrating me for months and is still doing "sew".

Here are all six rows with only one more to add on:

And now for the question: If a quilt falls on the floor will a cat sit on it?
YES!  ALWAYS!  ♫

Turn Around Day ♫

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Today is what I refer to as my turn around day.  After getting off work this morning I am back on day shift tomorrow morning!  I got home a little earlier than usual this morning, so decided after my shower to take a quick 10 minute nap before waking my son to get ready for school.  I awoke 40 minutes later!!!!  Wowsers, what a rush, but we did make it to school on time!

After dropping him off at school I stopped to pick up a few groceries, I think I will probably have to get groceries later in the week as I don't think my mind was all "there" while I was getting groceries.

Home to do some laundry and other house hold things.  Picked up the mail and look what had arrived:
The wonderful yarn I had ordered from Sweetgeorgia Yarns. ☺

Fabric from Sew Sisters

Quite proud of my "haul" since it was all purchased from retailers right here in Canada!

After dinner this evening I did manage to complete one more block for the Churn Dash Challenge I decided to participate in.  Meet Block 9 (It's week 17 this week, shhhhhh.....):
There!  Feeling somewhat accomplished.  Now, off to do a bit of knitting and go to sleep early tonight ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...
