Awful Waffle Sunday...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

My son woke up this morning asking for Waffles since it's Sunday.  When we make waffles on Sunday we call it Awful Waffle Sunday just because it rhymes!

Yummy.

After breakfast we watched television for a while.  Nothing really interesting but snuggled up under quilts on the couch was relaxing.

After lunch I did a bit of house work and laundry.  Attempted to organize my craft room but failed at that so we decided to make cupcakes:

While the cupcakes were baking I made the buttercream icing and my son added the color to one batch to make the hearts.

I iced the basic cupcake but he drew the hearts and put on the sprinkles.  Two dozen yummy cupcakes waiting to be eaten!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone.

Happy Canada Day

Happy Canada Day Everyone!

I LOVE Canada Day!  It's one of my favorite celebrations.  This is the first year in a long time that we have been at home for Canada Day, but we still had fun.

We had flax seed, blueberry pancakes with maple syrup for breakfast:

Then I gave my son his bag of Canada Day Fun:
Used a store bought brown bag and decorated it with some paper dies from Stampin' Up.  The bag is filled with fun things like a jump rope, a Jumbo Glow Stick, chocolate, assorted candy and a jar of bubbles!

Then we made and decorated Canada Day Cupcakes:

After lunch we biked 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) through the river valley:

Then we went out for dinner, and to a movie, before watching the Sherwood Park Fireworks!

Happy Canada Day everyone!

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Friday Feature Card

Good Evening Internet Friends!

It has somehow been a long week even though I had yesterday off to attend dental and medical appointments (maybe that's what made it long).

This evening after dinner I actually took some time to do some crafting.  It has somehow been a long time since I took the time to sit down and do some of my paper crafting.  I realized earlier today that I am completely out of birthday cards of any kind.

So, this evening I sat down and made 10 birthday cards.  In typical Kathy fashion there is nothing on these cards that is current product from Stampin' Up.  Seriously! ♫ ☺
Oh well, hopefully none of recipients of these cards will mind.  My friend Lynn's birthday was last week and since I will be seeing her this weekend she will be the first to get one of these ☺

Earlier in the week here in Edmonton we found out really and truly Hell Freezes Over.  I took this picture of my street this morning:
It did look pretty though.....

Cupcakes a la Kid!

Good Evening Internet Friends!
Between doses of anti-inflammatory medications and a handful of "hard core" analgesics for my second kidney stone, I baked a batch of 12 orange cupcakes for my son to decorate:
Looks like he had fun!

Happy 10th Birthday, Summer Vacation Day 13!

Today is my son's 10th Birthday!  I cannot believe that my baby is 10 years old!!!
As you may know from reading my blog my son is a HUGE fan of Phineas and Ferb, hence, the reason we  are counting every day of summer vacation this year!
On the show the children's pet is Perrry the Platypus and my son decided that for his actual birthday party he wanted a Perry the Platypus theme.
I searched everywhere while we were on vacation for Perry the Platypus themed party items, and other than drinking cups, I found NOTHING!!!
So, I made do:
Here's my version of Perry the Platypus cupcakes.  I found a Blue Velvet Cake Mix from which to make the cupcakes, and then iced them to try to look like Perry the Platypus.  My son thought I did a "Top Drawer" job, and I think I did pretty well myself!
While I was icing the cupcakes he painted an unfinished market pail that we had in the house in party appropriate colors and we put a liner in the pail and served the chip snacks from the pail:
Happy 10th Birthday Little Buddy!

Friday Feature Card

Finally had some time this evening to sit down in the craft room and open up my new Blendabilities Markers from Stampin' Up.
I do like the idea that colors coordinate with their product, and that because the markers are alcohol based they don't leave that streaked mark all over when coloring large areas, but these markers certainly are not my Copic Markers.  The shape of the marker barrel is not very comfortable, it's square, the lids are very hard to get off, the smell of the alcohol is quite a bit stronger, and I found with blending as you will see on the card I made the colors sort of just merge together giving a fuzzy look, and no it's not my photography, the cake slice looks blurry in person too.
So, here is the card I made this evening:
The design for this card is loosely based the on Mojo Monday 346 design.

Star Wars Birthday Cupcakes!

Today we are celebrating my husband's ?? (can't tell you the number) birthday.
Our son decided that daddy should have a home made cake just like him because bought cakes are not good!
While at Bulk Barn yesterday we found Star Wars cupcake wrappers and these cake toppers and my son decided that is what we needed for daddy's cake because daddy is a HUGE fan (I still don't get it, allegedly is something of our generation, but I still can't follow it > : ?  ).
Here is what we made:
We have black sparkly candles for these too!
Now, as you know I finished (mostly) a quilt top last night.
As of this afternoon, this is what it has become:
Cat Nap Approved by Hello Kitty!
Great cat fur on a quilt yet to be completed and not sure how to explain the hair that will likely be on it by the time it gets to the long arm quilter.....

Happy Birthday to Pop and Hip Puffle!

Hello Internet Friends!!
My son loves to play Club Penguin.  He has even set me up with my own account don't you know!
Well, Pop the Puffle has a birthday today and Hip the Puffle has a Birthday on Saturday and my son wanted to have Birthday Parties for these creatures.
We came up with a compromise; I would make cupcakes for his class tomorrow (all the kids play this game), and he could celebrate his Puffle's Birthday's tomorrow.
Here is what we made:
 Happy Birthday Puffle's!!!

September Stamp of the Month Club

Yes, you read correctly.  I am finally posting my ever so cool Stamp of the Month Cards from September.  This is a Club that my friend Karina organizes.
Each month you get a stamp set and three coordinating cards.
You will likely notice that my cards to do not match the stamp and that is because I already had the stamp set offered, so I got to choose another instead.  YAY!
My favorite is the cupcake one!  Surprised?  Of course not, everyone knows I LOVE cupcake things!

Zucchini Cupcakes

Back on the weekend when my son and I were at the market garden we of course got zucchini.
I love baking with zucchini, so at this time of year I buy lots of it and put it in one cup sizes into freezer bags for use later in the winter.
But, of course before I could finish this task, I had to make Chocolate Zucchini cupcakes.  Which I did:
No, not this one, but isn't it the MOST fun cupcake container ever?  I found it at the Paderno Kitchen Shop in Edmonton recently.  I LOVE Paderno, and yes I did check out every one of the stores while in PEI.
Okay, so these are the cupcakes that my son and I iced, and yes there is one in his lunch box today (I laced these cupcakes with Chia seeds).
Yummy!

Friday Feature: Happy Birthday Card!

I am meeting my friend for lunch today again at Duchess Bake Shop, and it's her birthday on Sunday.
I decided to make her a cupcake card (because I LOVE cupcakes), for my Friday Feature Project on Krafting Krew.
I hope she likes it!  My son wanted to know why I was giving a card with a "moldy" cupcake!  I explained that I thought the green icing was pretty, and he just shrugged.... } : (.....

HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!!

Happy Canada Day Everyone!!!!
I LOVE Canada Day, it's right up there almost as important as Christmas for me.
I love being Canadian, and on this day it gives me, my family and my country the chance to pause and be thankful for what we have.
In honour of this day my son and I baked cupcakes and took them with us for the Canada Day barbeque:
HAPPY CANADA DAY, and here are two of my favourite You Tube tributes to Canadians:
I Am Canadian Anthem (yes I know it's from Molson) and
God Bless You Canada.

The Mysterious Peppermint Cupcakes....

After an entire weekend of having some kind of gastric "bug" I decided I wanted peppermint cupcakes!
This is the perfect time of year to make these.
I made a basic chocolate cupcake batter but added a teaspoon of peppermint extract.
I frosted these cupcakes with butter cream frosting, but used a few drops of peppermint extract in it also.
Crushed candy canes on top, and quite yummy to add to my diet of toast and Ginger Ale.
Here's hoping tomorrow is a better day.
Now, the mystery.... I went for my camera to take a picture of these and when I returned....22 cupcakes not 24!  Hmmmmm, would a little boy and a husband be the culprits????
Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Knitting in the Toyota (again/still)

I'm knitting in the Toyota (either still, or again)!
It's Thursday and of course that means my son has riding lessons.  While my son rides, I knit.  Now, I am not a bad parent for knitting in the car while he rides, I simply have to do this as I am VERY asthmatic to horses.  I have tried wearing the N 95 Respirator, however, it frightens the horses as well as the other parents who think I am contagious.
While in Canmore last week of course I went to Knit and Caboodle to look at all the pretty yarns.  Of course I took home a few, but this one in particular I thought was extra FUN.
This yarn is made by Biscotte & Cie.  It is a company based out of Quebec so of course the web page is en francais.  The laugh here is that "Mon français n'est pas très bon", and I attempted for quite some time to read the web page and even navigate the blog until my son asked my why I did not push the ENGLISH link in the upper right hand corner of the page!  DUH.....
The name of this yarn is: CUPCAKE!  See, why I love it?
I started a pair of socks with it on the way home from Canmore, however, I fell asleep between Cochrane and Red Deer, so not much was done until today.
This is a picture of my son and the ducks that gathered around him by Spring Creek.  He is such a gentle soul...

Pumpkin Cupcakes

Last night my son and I made Pumpkin cupcakes.  I found the little pumpkin candies at the Bulk Barn (sorry Lisa...), a few weeks ago, and decided that this was the perfect time to use them.  Now the cupcakes are not just pumpkin flavored, they look like they're from the pumpkin patch!
I have included the recipe that I use for Pumpkin Cupcakes below:

Pumpkin Cupcakes
1/2 cup canola oil
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 cups pumpkin  puree
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 cup whole wheat flour
3 tbsp ground flax seed
Mix oil and sugar together.  Add eggs one at a time.  Add vanilla and pumpkin puree and mix until smooth.  Mix dry ingredients together and add to mixture by heaping tablespoons, making sure that all flour lumps are worked out.  Bake in 350 F oven for 25 minutes (Alberta time).   Enjoy.

Cupcake Cookie Jar

This is my latest cupcake project.
It is another cookie jar (one can never have too many cookies).  I painted if after my birthday at Crock a Doodle in Spruce Grove.
It is currently filled with the ginger cookies my mom made last week, but they are disappearing (mystery).

Cupcake Cake for Happy Blog Day

I bought this cupcake cake pan at Bulk Barn back before my birthday but never got around to using it.
So, I used it today to celebrate Happy Blogday!  Today is my officially one year of my daily blogging!
I decorated it with Buttercream Icing.  Half of the batch I added Bernard Callebaut cocoa powder for the chocolate base.
The top is decorated with my biggest icing tip, and then some left over pink buttercream from the fridge.
We found the small colored chocolate balls at Bulk Barn as well, and since they looked like sprinkles for a giant cupcake we sprinkled them all over.
Yummy!

Cupcake Plate

I LOVE cupcakes is probably an understatement!
This is my cupcake plate that I made along with my friends at my recent Birthday party at Crock a Doodle In Spruce Grove.
I will introduce you to the other cupcake plates once I figure out who made each one.....

Cupcake Take Home Boxes

I decided that everyone at the Cupcake Party needed to take home cupcakes (otherwise I would eat them).  So I made these boxes for everyone to take home their cupcakes in.
I was going to use my Cricut to make the boxes, however, was running short on time, so went to Creative Packaging here in Edmonton, and picked up the gable boxes, and cupcake inserts.  While there I found the green and fuchsia raffia and loved it.  I thought the green was close to Gumball Green one of Stampin' Up's new colors, but none of their other colors matched the fuchsia, however I will call it a Guest Color was perfect (shhhh - it's Ranger's summer series distress ink called Picked Raspberry).
I used my Create a Cupcake stamp set for the banner, and backed it with Gumball Green card stock of which I used the scallop trim border to make it pretty.
Lots of raffia on top makes everything look pretty!

Banana Cupcakes with Rolled Carmel Frosting

I LOVE banana cupcakes.  Not sure why exactly, but they are always moist and tasty, so of course I made some for the cupcake party on Wednesday.  Yummy as usual.
