Happy Birthday!!!

Good Evening Internet Friends!!

One of the things I did today was a total experiment.  A colleague of my has her 50th Birthday tomorrow and I decided to make her a cake.  I should mention that she is Vegan.

After a LOT of searching for recipes I decided on one that called for Soy Milk.  After discovering that Soy Milk only comes in 2 Litre containers of which I only  needed a cup for the cake I gave up cause I have no purpose for the rest of that milk, and it is not cheap.

Later in the day I discovered a can of coconut milk in my pantry.  I use coconut milk to make jasmine rice.

I decided to bake the cake with coconut milk.  Since the recipe no longer fit for coconut milk I set about making a cake on my own.🎂

Here is what I managed to produce:
 Before Baking.

After Baking.

The cake was topped with Coco Whip and actually tastes pretty good.

Will see tomorrow how well this is received.

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you all the
BEST Day EVER Monday.  🥳

The Stone...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Today was my first day back at work this week and it was a long and tough one.

Sunday morning we woke up and decided to go out for brunch in St. Albert .  It was delicious as usual but towards the end of the meal I started to get an ominous back pain.....I hoped that we could get home and I could take my medications in time and avoid going to the Emergency Department.

Unfortunately by the time we were home I was in full blown pain!!  It was off to the Emergency Department.

I was diagnosed with a 5 mm kidney stone!  OMG that hurt.  Worse than the last one as far as I can remember ☺

I was so fortunate that my very dear friend came and stayed with me as hubby took kiddo home to bed. It was early Monday morning before she and I left the hospital.

Monday was spent sleeping and taking pain medications.  I am still not sure if it has actually gone or if the pain I feel now is just residual pain or if the stone has just nested somewhere.

Yesterday was my Birthday and it went off without a lot of celebration simply due to the pain.

Hubby did his best to bake a cake:

It turned out pretty good for short notice from the grocery store ☺

We went out for dinner but it was short as well as I did not have much of an appetite or want to sit for very long...

Arriving home and tucking into bed I decided I would work on an easy knitting project I started about 3 years ago:

It's a Waffle Knit Dish Cloth that I finished this evening.

Now it's off to bed as I agreed to pick up a shift tomorrow at a clinic I used to work at.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Treat Bags...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Today has been a very busy day, but somehow it's just before midnight and I have managed to be ready for my son's Birthday Party tomorrow.

Earlier this week I decided that since we will be home for his actual birthday that we should have some kind of a party.  It's always hard with summer birthday's but we were able to get two of his friends to join him tomorrow to see The Secret Life of Pets and then have a Birthday Cake picnic afterwards.

This evening I baked cookies for the loot bags as my son requested:

We also took the puppy in for a "little" procedure today:

Here he is arriving home, has not slowed down at all and by this evening in typical Lab Dog fashion he has eaten the cone!!!!

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

A Good Friday

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Today was literally A Good Friday.

After breakfast kiddo and I made doggie biscuits.  I used the recipe from my new cookbook Butter Celebrates.  I LOVE these books as you may already know.  Here are the doggie biscuits that we made today, 66 in all:
Both dogs seemed to enjoy them ☺

Then I set my son up to paint Easter Eggs.  On one of our cross border shopping trips I stumbled upon these craft eggs that can be used to decorate for Easter.  I was so excited because I hate wasting eggs and I refuse to eat colored eggs.

Here are kid and Hello Kitty supervising this process I guess...
 They had fun!

After lunch we headed out to the River Valley to take the Lab puppy for a walk.  Once across the bridge and down by the river we discovered pussy willow!!!  I was excited to see, but then realized I had left my puffers at home!!!  Fingers crossed I would make back.

We continued on.  Hubby with puppy as puppy is FAR too strong for kiddo to walk, sometimes on the way.  Puppy almost outweighs me at this time.  I am fortunate however that I walk him so frequently that although he is kiddo's dog he does not pull too much and I can still keep him under control.  With hubby being away at work so much he does not walk puppy that often and there were times today where puppy was definitely in control:
Here he was behaving himself! ☺  For a bit ; )

This morning hubby reminded me that today would have been his mom's 83 birthday.  He has been struggling with the loss of her the past 9 months, so I decided we should celebrate her birthday for her.  I made a chocolate cake (her favorite) and in honor of her I decorated a cake the way she would have; with icing and sprinkles (although I did have home made buttercream icing in the basement refrigerator - she would have used a can)!
Happy Birthday Winnie.  Your cake was delicious.  Catch you on the flip side.  Hugs.

Tomorrow my friend Sharon and I are off at the crack of dawn on a quilting expedition quite unlike any other!  Off to bed now.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Sunday Funday...

Good Late Evening Internet Friends.

Today my son and I are referring to as Sunday Funday.  We accomplished almost nothing except for some laundry being washed.

I did a bit of knitting, still not anything that I can really showcase.

After lunch we headed out with the dog for a walk to my friend Sharon's just to see how my quilt is coming along.  I will say it looks AMAZING!!!  Probably the nicest quilted quilt that I have ☺

Since it was Sharon's birthday recently I finished up the last pair of my fingerless mittens from Yarn Crush and along with blog friend Jane's idea of putting the cheapy dollar store gloves under these I gifted these to Sharon for her birthday because they are pretty and RED.

Of course I made a gift box:

Used one sheet of my brand new It's My Party Designer Series Paper from Stampin' Up and I even made the box using my Gift Box Punch Board!  OMG.  Only the ribbon is contraband ☺

Inside the box went these beauties:

I have been loving these monthly yarn and pattern and small gifty packages from Yarn Crush but unfortunately although they are a Canadian company the kits are priced in US dollars meaning that the next time I go to pre-purchase my subscription the cost will be significantly more and not sure that it is worth it (sad face).

The walk was great although cold it was - 26 degress Celsius (-15 Fahrenheit).  We all including puppy walked quickly:

Arriving home we made hot chocolate and then watched some tele under quilts ☺

Back to work tomorrow, so off to bed I go.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Night 2 of Puppy....

Good Late Evening Internet Friends.

Well we are into our second night of a puppy in the house!  We survived last night with only one wake up call at 0320 for water and a trip outside to pee.

Today we practiced spending time in the kennel.  My friend Sharon who helps out with rescue dogs borrowed us one of her kennels.  It is big enough that my son can crawl into it and think it's a great hideout.  When I put puppy in today it looked so big and lonely that I popped in the Shih Tzu with him.  The Shih Tzu did not think this was fun, especially when puppy would while.  Eventually the Shih Tzu could not deal with it any more and would bark at puppy and then puppy would lay down and look sad like he got scolded for a while.  We will practice a little tomorrow and Sunday as Monday I go back to work.

I had lunch with my dear friend Brandy today at you guessed it; Duchess Bake Shop.  Fantastic food and visit as usual.

After my son and puppy went to bed I went down to my craft room that I have not been in now for a while.  I decided I would take out my August Paper Pumpkin kit.

Here is what I made:

Three cute little Birthday Cards!!!

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Hello Friday....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

It is that time of the month again where I get to spend the weekend working night shifts.  YAY... :  \

This morning of course I had to get up and get my son off to school and then I spent the day running errands.  No time for a rest.  Now I am trying to stay up as late as possible so that I can sleep in tomorrow morning (a bit); my son is at doing a skating drill thing on Saturday mornings for the next few weeks.

I did some knitting this evening and also made Block 25 of the Churn Dash Challenge (it's really week 37 but I am a little behind.....):

I also realized that I forgot to post the cards I made last week, one of which has been sent to my dear friend Claudette for her Birthday:

I had so much fun making these cards!  Seriously.

Now I am off to see what other chaos I can get into.  Maybe I will bake in the middle of the night like my grandmother used to do after working night shifts ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Playing...

Good Evening Internet Friends.

The weekend has passed and somehow I managed to do a whole lot of NOTHING.

On Saturday my son and I went and did some back to school shopping, running shoes and jeans.  Normally, we would get these items on our annual fall Cross Border Shopping trip, but of course with the dollar being the way it is right now, it is cheaper to shop at home.

We also stopped at River City Yarns because I decided that I wanted some new yarns for a project that just HAD to start.

Then we made pizza for dinner and watched movies.

Sunday, yesterday, was my Birthday.  After sleeping late, and having pancakes for brunch we went to see Shaun the Sheep Movie.  It was a cute movie.

This evening after work and dinner, I spend some time playing with my Pfaff Quilt Expression 4.2.  I probably should watch the videos, but they seem too long, so I did the best I could with what little I could figure out and made a quilt label for my friend Brandy's wedding Quilt:
It sort of looks like those free cheques you get from the bank for your chequing account which is kind of appropriate I guess since one of them is actually an Investment Banker.

Tomorrow I will sew it on and then the quilt can go back to its proper owners.

I got a really cute card from Karina for my Birthday:
And thanks to everyone else who sent a card too!

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Sprinkles of Life...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Long time no blogging for me.  I am now Day 9 of my 11 day stretch that I agreed to (yes, it's my own fault).  Did have to come home this morning though as late last week there was a sudden change in programming decision made for the clinic and that resulted in everyone having to attend a meeting this morning.  Well, we got to the meeting with the "Big Wigs" only for me to get to smell their markers and all the papers with "vision maps" that they had smelling up the room!  Instant Asthma Attack for me!  After my breathing stabilized I got to go home.  Spent the rest of the afternoon and most of this evening sleeping.

A friend of mine had a birthday a few weeks back and I made a card for her.  I drove the GO GO GO Toyota today and found the card still sitting on the seat.  Oooops forgot to mail it.  So, when the recipient of this card gets it in their mail; HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

These are the four cards I made:
TAH DAH!!!

I used the Sprinkles of Life stamp set and coordinating punch, 2015 - 2017 In Color Card Stock and Cherry On Top Designer Series Paper.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

It's Finally Friday!!!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

I just realized as I am getting ready to post my Friday Share for Karina's Krafting Crew that somehow I have not blogged all week!!

Not sure how exactly that happened, I have done some knitting and a bit of quilting and sewing, but come to think of it nothing significant!

Thankfully the forecast is for more rain this weekend so my plan is that tomorrow will be Pajama Day!

Since it is Friday and I do not feel especially creative tonight I decided that I would make a couple of quick Birthday Cards that I could take to work and leave in my desk for such occasions.

Here is what I made:
TAH DAH!!!!

Pretty quick and easy, but kinda pretty (okay, I just like the glitter paper).

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Thanks Jane!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

As you may know I am not the biggest technology guru or fan in the world.  I am often heard stating "Give me a pencil, and let's get this done".

Earlier today I finally decided to take myself to the doctor to get medical attention for the all day cough I have been experiencing for the last week.

A new puffer and some high doses of steroids had me sitting on the couch this evening.  Hello Kitty was happy probably because my coughing has been keeping him up:

Of late I have kind of lost my mojo to do any quilting or sewing.  While sitting on the couch though this evening I was able to do some instant messaging with my blog friend Jane.  It was awesome and very therapeutic.  "Sew" while I may mock technology after our "chat" I went down to my craft room and finished a project that has been sitting on my desk for about 2 months:

It's a grocery tote panel that I picked up at Sew Divine about 6 months ago!!!

If the smoke clears (literally, Western Canada is still on fire) I will take it to the Farmer's Market tomorrow.

Then because I was on a roll I opened last month's package of Paper Pumpkin and made:

I think I will take these to work with me on Monday and keep in my desk for random Birthday's that come up.   I am sure that a few of my patients have never had a Birthday card and would appreciate a card.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Wakey Wakey Chocolate Cake!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Well, I woke up this morning with a low blood sugar which required a juice box ASAP.  While I waited to get out of bed I thought about the fact that today was starting out similar to this exact same day 11 years ago (except that EMS did not have to respond today).

Eleven years ago today I was almost 34 weeks pregnant with my son.  During my pregnancy I developed the inability to recognize hypoglycemic episodes and also became a very "brittle"( for lack of a better word) diabetic.  I would take 1 unit of Humalog with a meal and 2 hours later find myself waking up in the Emergency with several intravenous lines hooked up to me.  Eleven years ago today my grandmother called me in the morning as she usually did to check on me and when I did not answer the phone she called EMS for me (my grandmother lives 8 hours away).  After being "revived" I spent most of the morning on the couch and eventually got ready to attend my weekly perinatal appointment at the High Risk Pregnancy clinic.

It was a very hot day, kind of like today except that there were ominous black clouds in the sky.  I left my black lab at home watching some nature show on television (she liked that) and went to my appointment.  It was a Friday and everything and everyone seemed slow.  I almost left the appointment because it was just about 1600 hours and I wanted to go home and put my feet up as the clinic chairs were most uncomfortable.

I was seen before I could leave and as the perinatologist read my emergency report of that morning he decided that an emergency C-section needed to be done for my and baby's sake.  My husband was out of town in a remote work camp.  Thankfully, my NICU friend and neighbor was off that day and she came to the hospital to get my stuff, went home to let the dog out and returned to the hospital to be with me for what ever support I needed.

Since I was going to be alone for this C-section it was decided that I would get an epidural so that I could be conscious for baby's arrival.  However, the years of being an RN had apparently played havoc with my back and the anesthesiologist with his student entourage watching was unable to advance the catheter.  I was given general anesthetic  which several years later my NICU friend told me of all the awful things I said and did to the nurses that day, some funny, others not so much ☺

I remember waking up in ICU with several IV's hooked up and the pediatrician that was covering for the pediatrician I had chosen for my son telling me and the team around me that my son would be discharged as soon as I was ready to go because she knew me from PICU and that I knew what to do with a premature baby!!!!!

What????!!!!

How does one deal with a 34 week babe at home without a ton of very expensive medical devices and round the clock staffing?

Well,  11 years later we have proof that it can be done.  It was a LOT of work, but worth it ☺

If you read my blog you will know that my son is a fan of Phineas and Ferb and recently on an episode the robot was waking up a character with "Wakey, Wakey, Chocolate Cakey".

My son thought that was a brilliant idea for his birthday and so last night I made Chocolate Zucchini cake for him for breakfast:

I added whole wheat flour and some flax seed to it, so along with the zucchini in it and a glass of milk I am going to say it was a "balanced" breakfast for today!

This evening we went to Taste of Ukraine, his favorite restaurant for dinner.

As far as crafting, I have accomplished none of that today.

Happy Birthday "Bug".

Happy Birthday Cards!!!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

We are supposed to be away on Summer Vacation, but my son decided he wanted to attend a friend's Birthday Party.  Then my husband decided that if we were going to stay home for a few extra days he would do some "things" and now it looks like we will just end up staying home : (((

Today was the Birthday Party and my son wanted me to make a Birthday Card.  I really did not feel creative and I realized that every time a birthday party rolls around I am madly making a card only moments before the party.  So, today I made:

All expired Stampin' Up product (except for the googly eyes that we had to go to the Dollar Store for).  The monsters are embossed so either my son or the giftee child can color the monster as they see fit!

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Friday Feature Card

Good Evening Internet Friends!

It has somehow been a long week even though I had yesterday off to attend dental and medical appointments (maybe that's what made it long).

This evening after dinner I actually took some time to do some crafting.  It has somehow been a long time since I took the time to sit down and do some of my paper crafting.  I realized earlier today that I am completely out of birthday cards of any kind.

So, this evening I sat down and made 10 birthday cards.  In typical Kathy fashion there is nothing on these cards that is current product from Stampin' Up.  Seriously! ♫ ☺
Oh well, hopefully none of recipients of these cards will mind.  My friend Lynn's birthday was last week and since I will be seeing her this weekend she will be the first to get one of these ☺

Earlier in the week here in Edmonton we found out really and truly Hell Freezes Over.  I took this picture of my street this morning:
It did look pretty though.....

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Kathy's Excellent Advenure Day

Good Evening Internet Friends!

I had today off from work and I did only things I wanted to today!

After I dropped my son off at school I stopped for a cinnamon scone at Cobs

Then it was on to River City Yarns to pick up a skein of Wisteria CashSilk Lace yarn for a scarf I want to make.  Of course I picked up a few other things........

I attempted to register for the Great Canadian Knitting Tour West Coast Toque class, but apparently I was too late.  Oh well, later in the day I registered for the class through the Edmonton Weaver's Guild! ♫

After that I carried on to Chapter's to hopefully pick up the latest copy of Cross Stitch Collection (yes, we get these copies a month late).  I am really seriously thinking I have to get the subscription....

Lastly it was off to Lori's Country Cottage to pick up my latest issue of Block.  Of course while I was there I happened to stumble across some fabric I just could not leave behind.

Today I managed to acquire lots of crafty stuff, however right now I have no creativity.  I need to make a birthday card for a friend I will see tomorow.  Thankfully Bella over at the Krafting Crew group I belong to came up with cards that I could copy (I had to change the stamp set as I did not have the ones she did):
TAH DAH!!

Thanks Bella.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Birthday Party Pillowcase

Good Afternoon Internet Friends.

My son is off to a Birthday Party this afternoon and of course along with the Lego he decided that the child also needed a pillowcase gift bag.

A quick stop (well it ended up being longer because I found other fabric I just COULD NOT live without) at Lori's and I found some fun kid fabric for the pillowcase.  Put it together last night and here is how it looks:
My son thinks that this is pretty "Top Drawer"!  ☺  Hope the recipient does too!

Off to work evening shift now.

Mojo Monday Ready on Friday!

Good Afternoon Internet Friends.  No, I have not been in the "sauce" today.....I think....

My son has a birthday party to attend tomorrow and so I had to go out to get a gift this morning as I will be working this weekend.  I almost picked up a Birthday Card but decided I should probably make one since I have a plethora of stamps and paper in my craft room.

There are far too many options in the craft room right now and with all my quilts in various states of "finish" I was about to give up when I spotted my Simon Says Stamp Card Kit of the Month May 2014.  I have used this kit once before (last May) for another of my son's friend's Birthday Party.

Along with a few die cuts here is what I assembled:
TAH DAH.

I used the Mojo Monday Sketch 387 for my inspiration.  Clearly, I cannot follow directions, but this will do for an 11 year old boy.

Today is also Friday and that means Friday share over at Karina's Krafting Crew.  I think it has been close to three months since I participated in anything over there!  ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Happy Birthday To Me & Summer Vacation Day 51!

Good Evening Internet Friends!
Today is my birthday and I had a FANTASTIC DAY!
After going out for breakfast for Strawberry Waffles I went to Sparrow Studioz and took a three hour class (not a tour) on how to use the long arm machines there.  It was "sew" fun.  Unfortunately when I registered I was told I did not have to bring a quilt top to work on, but they were nice enough to make me a quilt top to practice on:
I am "sew" excited now to get another quilt top done, just so that I can go and play on the machine again!
Afterwards I went out for lunch with friends to Duchess Bakery .  Then my husband and son took me out for dinner at The Dish Bistro (I love that place).
It was a wonderful day and I feel truly blessed on this day to have so many people that helped make it special including my friend Claudette who I do not see as often as I should or write to as often as I should yet just after midnight I had an email to wish me a Happy Birthday!
Hope this inspires your own creativity...

A Mojo Monday Birthday Card. Summer Vacation Day 43.

Today before going to work I decided to sit down and make a birthday card that has been a little long in the making.  I could not come up with an idea or the motivation to make it for quite some while now.
I finally decided to use my August Simon Says Card Kit because it all looked so FUN.
Here is the card I made:
The format for this card is from Mojo Monday 357.  Sure hope the recipient likes it!  The great thing about this card kit was that all the supplies necessary to make this card were in the kit!  LOVE it.
Hope this inspires your own creativity...
