Canada Day 2019πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

Good Evening Internet Friends!!!

I hope everyone had an awesome Canada Day today!

The day was mostly rainy so kiddo and I did not get out too much.  I did take a nap this afternoon and that was needed I think as still tired feeling.

Before nap I did make cupcakes for Canada Day.  The Canadian Cupcake Caper struck before I could get a pic but you get the idea:

And yes these are tasty!!

After dinner I started sorting through my scrap fabric pile as I have found another way to use up some more of my scrap fabric pile.

This is called the Let's Be Friend's Sew Along hosted by the Border Creek Station Pattern Company.  SEW Fun!!!

One block down and a few inches of fabric used up.  Now....back to regularly scheduled quilting.

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you all the
BEST Day EVER TuesdayπŸ˜πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

"Sew" It Goes....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Today was my first day home after a bit of a vacation.  A whole lot of cleaning, sorting, and discarding was done today and that included my craft room.

I did actually get a project done though this evening after dinner:

TAH DAH!!!

I have had the idea to make this now for quite a while.

Fabric was purchased at Quincy's Quilting but I ran out of time to get this done before Canada Day.

This is one of my very own creations.  I used my Go Canada! Cricut cartridge for the maple leaf.  Researched the proportions of the flag and calculated that against the size of the Costco Hypoallergenic Pillow that I inserted into this case.

The back is a simple fold over so that I can separate the pillow and the pillow case on laundry day.  ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

"Sew" Busy...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

It is the start of summer vacation!

Right after work on Friday kiddo and I loaded up the Highlander, and headed out for my friend and colleagues wedding.

Sunday we headed out to Banff stopping in Canmore at the Sugar Pine Company.

I wanted to pick up the 2018 Row by Row, but of course I left there with a LOT more....

One of the items that I got was the Shania Sunga Homecoming Bench Pillow Kit, and it was on sale for Canada Day:

TAH DAH!!!!  I will have to pick up a bit more of the stuffing filling tomorrow, but this is my progress from the weekend.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Almost...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

It is almost Canada Day and I cannot help but remember the excitement of this time last year with us preparing to celebrate Canada Day 150 in Ottawa.

This year will be a little more low key.  However, while making sure I used my Bulk Barn coupon this evening I found these fun red and white maple leaf sprinkles.

So......arriving home I made cookies while I did laundry:

Delicious!!!!

Happy Canada Day/Bonne Fete du Canada 🍁🍁

"Sew" Busy...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

I have been "sew" busy over the past few days/weeks that I have not had time to post.

Yesterday I took myself on a bit of a road trip and one of the things I picked up was some fabric for a project I have been thinking about making for at least a couple of years now...

This is part of the project and hopefully I will have "sew" much more to show you tomorrow.

I decided to use this fabric after seeing it at Quincy's Quilting yesterday when I stopped by to pick up their version of the Row by Row 2018.

Fingers crossed my vision works out...🀞

Happy Canada Day!

Good Evening Internet Friends from a very wet Ottawa and Canada 150.

Yesterday on the flight and between naps I finished my Canada 150 socks:

These socks are a necessity in the rain today as it is not even a warm rain.....it is a cold rain.

This afternoon we spent some time inside at the Canadian Museum of History.  Not only do I love the exhibits in there, but it was dry.   One of my favourite things to see there are the totem poles:

Now to try and dry out for the fireworks this evening!  Happy Canada Day everyone and

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Almost.....

Good Afternoon Internet Friends!

Almost.....almost is kind of my life right now.

It is almost time to go to work for evening shift.  I have almost finished the things I need to do today including getting my son to all his extra curricular and social activities today.

I am almost ready to start packing for our trip to Ottawa for Canada's 150th Birthday.

As far as crafting....that is always an "almost" procedure.  Right now my Canada Day Rag Quilt is almost ready:

Just have to do the snipping part ☺ and it will be ready!

Have a great week everyone and

Quilt Time....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

"Sew" my quilting skills have progressed a lot over the years but there is something very wonderful and cozy about a good ole rag quilt.

When I saw this Canada flannel I decided that I MUST make a rag quilt for Canada Day 150:

My first pile of squares completed.  On to the red next. ☺

Canada 150 Socks!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Earlier this week I picked up some Canada 150 yarn.  By special request I had asked for mini red skeins to coordinate with this custom dye:

I was "SO" excited to get started on a pair of socks with red toes heel and cuff but my JRA has been bothering me for a couple of weeks now (the moving and cleaning may not have been good for it).

I am not a fan of toe up socks but because of the style I wanted I chose to use this method.  At first I cast on with my wooden circular needle but since it is small (for socks) my hands got even more sore quite quickly trying to hold the needles.  I switched to my Sock Rocket needles knowing that the metal would bother my hands but hoping that with lots of extra cable I would be able to knit without too much pain.  Not so....it has taken me most of the week to get through the toe portion.  As of tonight however I was able to switch out to my 6" Double Point Needles and although my hands still hurt the needles are long enough and the radius of the sock wide enough to allow my hands to be able to knit😁😁

Now I am really making progress!  Hopefully I can have these socks finished for Canada Day although I might be knitting these on the flight.....

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Getting Ready....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Well, it's true.....the count down is on for Canada Day 150.  It has always been a dream of mine to attend Canada Day in Ottawa and on Parliament Hill and this year my son and I will be doing just that!  I am starting to get excited!  It has been almost a year in the planning ☺

Today I picked up and subsequently planted my Canadian Shield Rose:

This evening after all the household tasks were done I finished the first of the lattice socks that I made with the 7 stitch diamond shape on them.  Unfortunately, the pattern does not show up well under the photo flash, but trust me it is there!

This yarn colourway is named Alpine Meadow from Ancient Arts Yarn:

Now, I am going to try valiantly to complete the second one of these.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Happy Canada Day

Happy Canada Day Everyone!

I LOVE Canada Day!  It's one of my favorite celebrations.  This is the first year in a long time that we have been at home for Canada Day, but we still had fun.

We had flax seed, blueberry pancakes with maple syrup for breakfast:

Then I gave my son his bag of Canada Day Fun:
Used a store bought brown bag and decorated it with some paper dies from Stampin' Up.  The bag is filled with fun things like a jump rope, a Jumbo Glow Stick, chocolate, assorted candy and a jar of bubbles!

Then we made and decorated Canada Day Cupcakes:

After lunch we biked 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) through the river valley:

Then we went out for dinner, and to a movie, before watching the Sherwood Park Fireworks!

Happy Canada Day everyone!

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Happy Canada Day from the USA Summer Vacation Day 5

Today we celebrated Canada Day by going to Silverwood.  It's a water/amusement park in Idaho reasonably close to where we are camping.  I got the admission tickets at Costco on the weekend (I love that place; seriously).   It was a great way to spend a warm summer day.  Super tired now....
Have a great Canada Day wherever you are! ☺

HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!!

Happy Canada Day Everyone!!!!
I LOVE Canada Day, it's right up there almost as important as Christmas for me.
I love being Canadian, and on this day it gives me, my family and my country the chance to pause and be thankful for what we have.
In honour of this day my son and I baked cupcakes and took them with us for the Canada Day barbeque:
HAPPY CANADA DAY, and here are two of my favourite You Tube tributes to Canadians:
I Am Canadian Anthem (yes I know it's from Molson) and
God Bless You Canada.

Canada Day Table Runner

I started this project this afternoon, while contemplating what to do as a Displaced Nurse.
This is a kit that I bought at Christmas time from Sew-Sisters quilt shop.
I think I will machine quilt it ...... tomorrow.
Maybe it will be done for Canada Day? I doubt it!!!

Canada Day T-shirt

I love all things red and white with the maple leaf on them.  One simply cannot own too many Roots products.  I made this T-shirt albeit after Canada Day last summer and have been waiting to wear it.  I bought the T-shirt for $4.99 at that large craft store with the 40% off coupon (they will remain nameless due to my numerous dislikes of the operation).  The red fabric is left overs from my Canada Day Table Runner.   The maple leaves (not Maple Leafs) are cut in the Big Shot die cut using the Leaves 2 die cut, and the letters are die cut by borrowing Karina's letters die cut.  All of the fabric cuts are adhered with Wonder Under and then satin stitched in place.  Wore it for Canada Day, and got lots of questions as to where I got it!!!

Canada Day Soap

Every year for the past few years I make soaps for Canada Day.
We always spend Canada Day in either Jasper National Park or Banff National Park.  This year was Banff.
Making these soaps is always an art as getting the red the right color is always tricky, some years we have pink soap, others maroon would be more like.  This year.....close.
Hope you all had a wonderful Canada Day, and Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Happy Canada Day, I am Canadian!

My friend Kathleen once asked the question that many of you are probably asking right now "Who would make a table runner for Canada Day"?  To which I will give the response I gave her "Who wouldn't"?
I made this beauty a couple of years ago and since it has never been on my blog before, today is the perfect day for it.  I got this as a kit from Loris Country Cottage and although you may not be able to see well enough the white, red, and tan fabrics all have maple leaves in the print!  The surrounding pattern is obvious in it's print as to what it is.  I love this table runner, and yes every year it graces my table with patriot pride from June 30th until it's first spill somewhere around July 02.  I have posted here a couple of links appropriate for today:
I Am Canadian Anthem
God Bless You Canada
 Have an AWESOME Canada Day!!
