Piano Socks!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Yes, it is late at night and I am blogging again.  Not sure where this week has gone, but so far it is not just Monday that I have lost.

Somewhere between work, skating, swimming, piano, laundry, dinner prep and homework I have managed to do a little knitting but that is about all this week.  Probably made the most progress on my most current sock tonight while at Piano Lessons:
TAH DAH.

Now, Good Night.

I've lost Monday.....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Seriously, I LOST Monday.  No idea where it went.

Got home from night shift took a quick nap, and woke up later than I should have.  Made a quick breakfast and lunch for kiddo and out the door to catch the bus.  Got to the bus stop just in time, and waited, and waited and waited.  Finally phoned the bus company and found out the bus was running +25 minutes late.  Hop in the car and off to school.

Fought traffic to school and back and home by 1000 hours.  Lots of time to get things done today.  Well, so far I have still not had a nap, have only got one load of laundry washed and folded and not really anything else.

I did make muffins for lunches this evening:

Also worked on a few rows of my August 2015 Yarn Crush shawl.  This is not a pattern to be done when one is sleep deprived but here is my progress so far.....about 600+ more rows of this and I should be done:
TAH DAH!

Now off to sleep as back to work day shift tomorrow and I already know that I get to pull a double shift on Friday for sure and maybe Thursday } : /

Hello Friday....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

It is that time of the month again where I get to spend the weekend working night shifts.  YAY... :  \

This morning of course I had to get up and get my son off to school and then I spent the day running errands.  No time for a rest.  Now I am trying to stay up as late as possible so that I can sleep in tomorrow morning (a bit); my son is at doing a skating drill thing on Saturday mornings for the next few weeks.

I did some knitting this evening and also made Block 25 of the Churn Dash Challenge (it's really week 37 but I am a little behind.....):

I also realized that I forgot to post the cards I made last week, one of which has been sent to my dear friend Claudette for her Birthday:

I had so much fun making these cards!  Seriously.

Now I am off to see what other chaos I can get into.  Maybe I will bake in the middle of the night like my grandmother used to do after working night shifts ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Try Again Tomorrow....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Growing up I used to think that having a teacher for a mom was the worst thing EVER!  Every test, homework assignment, and school project was graded multiple times; you just didn't get to be a kid.

Well, I am beginning to think that if I were to ask my son about his mom, he might tell you that having Registered Nurse for a mom is the worst!  Since he had not vomited for 8 hours last night I sent him to school this morning.  I am of the belief that if you got sick at school from your classmate's germs etc.,  your germs might as well all fight it out together.  Just think of the immunity you can get!  It's a little early in the season for a gastro bug as well so I can only assume that since he is attending a new school his body has some learning of new germs to get used to.  Anyways, at lunch I got the dreaded call that he had vomited again and that he had been sent to the sick room.

This afternoon while he slept on my lap on the couch I decided to do some knitting.  Just because I have decided that one can never have too much yarn I joined Yarn Crush.  Last month I received a wonderful skein of Sweet Georgia yarn (part of the reason I joined) and a pattern for a very elaborate shawl.  After having stared at this pattern for almost a month, today was the day to get started.  Here is my progress:

So far I have 12 rows of this completed.  To be completely honest, this pattern is not easy.  I have been knitting since I was 8 years old and and it took me a few attempts to get this correct.  I am using the corrected version of the pattern but even so there is no mention in the pattern that the center stitch must always be knitted.

Now it is off to bed time, and we will try again tomorrow to get through the school day ☺

Here Comes Monday....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

I had BIG plans for this weekend.

On Saturday morning I got my son up bright and early and after breakfast we headed off to the Home Depot for the Saturday morning Kids Workshop.  This week my son got to build a Football toss game:
I find this class fun and also a little hilarious.  Yes, I may have grown up on the farm in Saskatchewan but my dad was by trade a Finish Carpenter.  The dad's at this class try to build for the kids and not use glue, and the moms don't want their nails broke etc, and use TOOOOO much glue.☺  The end results can be quite funny.

After running a few errands we headed over to the Creative Stitches Show.  Of course I bought some new yarns.  Surprisingly I only came home with one small table runner quilt kit, a pattern, one meter of hilarious fabric, and a few fat quarters.  There really was nothing I "needed".

Then it was time to load up the car and head to the farm to dig up the potatoes this weekend and pack up anything perishable for winter from the trailer so that my husband can winterize it next weekend while I am at work.  About a half hour from the farm I got the backseat warning of "MOM, I'm going to be sick", and so he was.....  I thought that maybe it would pass quickly, but not so much.  So, by late evening I loaded him and a small pail filled with paper towels and grocery bags back into the car and came home.

Thankfully, there are lots of quilts in the house with which one can make washable nests and so that is what I have most of today.  Now, I can say there is a reason for all my quilts. ☺

While he was napping this afternoon I did finish my mitten:

My son thinks it looks like an oven mitt, hopefully it will be as warm as one!

Back in the Saddle....

Good Evening Internet Friends.

Well after a lot of vacation this summer, today was officially back to work and what a day it was.   For a first day back I saw 9 patient's each booked back to back and by the time I was completed my morning session it was half way through lunch already..... wowsers....Christmas vacation seems like a long way off right now.

After dinner, walking the dog, taking kiddo to the park and getting him to bed, lunch stuff prepped for tomorrow and dishes in the dishwasher I had a bit of time to myself!

I completed Block 24 of the Churn Dash Challenge of which it is currently week 36 ☺

TAH DAH!!!

Now off to do a wee bit of knitting before bed as tomorrow is another work day and of course extra curricular activities ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Super Monday Fun Day!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Today was officially the last day of summer!  Tomorrow my son starts his new school and I return to work on Wednesday and all the extra curricular activities that did not start last week, start this week.

Today I let him sleep late one last time and watch Phineas & Ferb since it seemed appropriate.  I even made him waffles for breakfast with canned raspberries:

Then we ran one last back to school errand to get a combination lock for his locker as the choose your own combination lock that I got him was a giant piece of JUNK!  Even the girl at Staples told me that these are really hard to open!!!!!  Then why sell them????

Eventually we found a non fun, non colored, plain old combination lock at the Home Depot of all places.

This afternoon we baked Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies:

After dinner we went to the park for a run and to play one last time for summer vacation:

After the final check was done of school supplies, shower, and he inventoried his closet that all his new clothes are clean for tomorrow he went to bed.  Tomorrow should prove to be interesting as up until now school clothes has been a "do I wear a cardigan, pullover or vest with my blue shirt and tie"?????  Since age three this is the first time that he has not been in uniforms at school so I think I might have to get him up a little earlier tomorrow morning as this wardrobe concept may be a little overwhelming. ☺

Earlier in the summer when we went school supply shopping my son did not like any of the pencil cases in the stores because they all "smelled".

In typical Kathy fashion I have had lots of time to sew a pencil case, however tonight at 2200 hours seemed the perfect time to do this.  "Sew" I did with the fun fabric he had picked out from my scraps.  There was not enough for the style he wanted, so he got this:

It is lined with blue whale fabric but I forgot to take a picture of that before putting all the pencils in!

Now I am off to bed to get ready for the BIG adventure tomorrow; first day of a new school and routine for both of us and first day of public school as well and that has been a learning curve for me this summer ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Let Me Get My Parka!!!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

The title of today's post is correct!  Last night it was getting cold in the house and I actually had to increase the climate control so that the furnace would start up.  It was actually starting to get cold and damp in the house!  I hate winter.  Today was a nasty cold rain and despite a sweater and wool socks under my rain jacket I was still cold!

Today was the last day of the weekend before school starts on Tuesday.  I asked my son what he wanted to do for "fun" in the cold rain today and he decided that he wanted to go to Telus World of Science.  Apparently he had not spent enough time there this summer, and or he knows his fan club is all there.  Whatever the reason that is where we spent our afternoon.  It was fun:
Here he is playing Mary had a little lamb on the flatus organ.  Yes, that is what it is.

Here he is distorting a tornado!

Big Fun!

This evening after he went to bed I spent a bit of time in my craft room.  Last weekend when I was at Prairie Points Quilt Shop I picked up some really neat flannel (the entire line looks like pajamas) with which to make a rag quilt.  Since it is cold outside and this quilt will likely be of use soon, I got started on it tonight.

Here is the first of the six fabrics all cut and sewn into 6" squares filled with all the left over batting from other quilts:

Saturday Knitting

Good Evening Internet Friends.

Woke up this morning to an overcast sky and forecast for rain so we stayed home.  I did a bit of house cleaning and de-stashing of my craft room.

After dinner I watched some television with my son and knit on a pair of mittens I am currently making:
This is the first time that I have tried to make Thrummed Mittens.

Now just to put in the thumb, and start the second one!

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Back At It.....Well, possibly...

Good Late Evening Internet Friends.

Over the duration of this summer I have not done a lot of stamping or any sort of paper crafting as I really had no motivation or purpose to do so.

Earlier this year it was announced that Stampin' Up would be hosting some big stamping event in Edmonton this fall.

When I looked at the date I realized that it is on the Saturday of my night shifts!  Drat.

Karina suggested that I register early to get a spot and if things changed then I could go, or cancel before the date. So, that is what I did.  Fortunately I am surrounded by people who keep me real and I was reminded that I had voiced I could not go due to night shifts.  Hmmmm, true enough.  I called and cancelled my registration and all was good.

Fast forward to this week when I find out I have been approved for the entire weekend off due to the bazillion (not exaggerating)  hours of over time I have worked this summer.  I called this morning to see if I could re-register and find out that apparently my registration was never cancelled!!!

So, I guess I am going.  I will have to crawl into or out of my box of shame I guess and make some card swaps now!

This evening I played with one of my old stamp sets and some out of date Designer Series paper and made three Christmas cards.  I might even use a similar design with current product now for the event.

Here is what I made:

Block 23!!!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

"Sew" I did not get around to posting on the blog last night.  I went for a walk to the local park with my son and then past some of the 112 Avenue shops as the road has been under construction since May.  Of course it is fall out there no matter how I might try and pretend it is not and by the time I got home I was on the verge of an asthma attack.  A very long warm shower and an early bedtime with the heating pad and my inhalers is what I did yesterday evening.

Earlier in the day I did manage to complete Block 23 for the Churn Dash Challenge:

Today has been spent inside knitting and napping.  Not a very exciting way to bring the summer to a close, but a safe one for me. ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...
