Finally Completed

I started this card a while ago, but did not know what to do with it, so I left it.
The concept behind it was that it would be a card/gift card holder, but hmmmmmm....
The band to hold the card closed has a scrunched up flower on the front of it.
The card base is Real Red, Summer Smooches Designer Series Paper, and Real Red Designer Series Paper.
The instructions for the flower are from the March 2012 issue of CardMaker.
As I was looking at my stamps for a card idea last night I noticed my Carry On Stamp Set and Decided that the "Shop On" caption would be perfect for a gift card, so I got this card out and finished it!  Easy Peasy now.
Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Oh S"crap"! It's Monday...

Alright, so it's a little different of a s"crap" project today.
When I got home from Saskatchewan last night I realized that I had forgotten to put the extra peaches in the refrigerator when we left.  They were VERY ripe.
So, I made my favorite Peach Streusel Coffee Cake with s"crap" peaches.
It is delicious!

Knitting in the F-350 take 2

On the trip home today I managed to finish my son's mini aphgan.
He has for the longest time been sleeping at night tucked in with an aphgan that I knit back when I was about 8 years old.  Since it is not knit that well, and keeps falling apart and I have to repair almost daily I decided to make him his own.
When we were in Canmore a few weeks back we went into Knit and Caboodle and he got to pick out the yarn in the colors he wanted.  It is knit with Estelle Yarns Baby Bunting.  I added 10 stitches to the width as I was told that the original pattern was quite narrow and there was lots of yarn left over.  I have only about 25 g of each color left over!!!
I finished this just after Saskatoon, and then proceeded to knit on my sock which I hope by the return from Jasper this weekend should be done.  Knit on!

Knitting in the F-350

I have knit these two dish cloths for my grandma while on route to her house.
These go together reslly quick and easy.  The first was made between Edmonton and Vermillion last night, but then it got dark.  The second was made from North Battleford to Saskatoon this morning.
Now, off to another project as still have a few more hours to go.

Long Gone to Saskatchewan...

Last week when I went in to Crock A Doodle in Spruce Grove to get my cupcake platter I found out that they were doing a kids class making watermelon bowls.  I will show the one my son made tomorrow, but, when I took him in for the class I made my own watermelon bowl, and here it is!  I LOVE it.  Honeynut cheerios tomorrow morning here we come!
Now, for those of you not from Saskatchewan you will wonder why the watermelon? Has a watermelon ever even grown there (unlikely)? But, I have attached a link that might help understand this somewhat:
This is also appropriate because I am currently on route to Saskatchewan to visit Grandma for the weekend, and of course will be singing Long Gone to Saskatchewan.
Now, if you're still not sure that you understand how we "roll" there, here is one more link that I think is hilarious, especially the part about setting the "E" brake....

Happy Belated Birthday Tiera

My colleague Tiera is celebrating her 50th year with the planet as of July 19th.  I was not not at work during that time, so I gave her this card yesterday in honor of her half century.
I made this card at The Urban Scrapbook a few weeks ago.  I LOVE everything about this card including the "ping" typewriter.
To celebrate her birthday Tiera is compiling a blog for 50 days about the adventures she is having for her birthday.

Countdown to Christmas

Only five more months to Christmas!
Today's card uses a Real Red card stock base, Whisper White out through the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder, and some random glitter paper I have sitting in my craft room.
The stamped images are from the Jolly Bingo Bits stamp set and the greeting is from a Celebration  stamp set.
A 1/8" piece of Real Red Taffeta Ribbon holds it all together.

London or bust...

This card is made using some random pieces of paper that I have along with my Miniful stamp by Penny Black.
I just love these little critters all packed into their auto on their way to London I would guess.  Looks like a fun road trip.
The strips on the bottom are made with shiny transfer foil.  I love to play with that stuff, I think it makes everything "top drawer".  The image is water colored and then a blender pen was used to blend the colors.

Oh S"crap"! It's Monday...

I thought of this kind of design while driving home from Camrose yesterday and was certain I would have enough scraps to make it!
The base is Old Olive with a layer of Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper (DSP) from Sale-a-bration.  A layer of Very Vanilla over more Old Olive.
The greeting is also from Sale-a-bration, a stamp set called Elementary Elegance.
The flowers are cut from Calypso Corral, Pear Pizazz and a small scrap of Everyday Enchantment DSP using the Fun Flowers Die.

What have I done?????

This is a twofold question.
1. What have I done today?  Well, I made 4 of the inner arches for this quilt block, and got 1/4 of the quilt block assembled.
2.  What have I done getting myself into this?  Remember I need to make 9 of these entire blocks (36 more like the one I have completed.  I placed the completed one on top of my cutting mat so you could get an idea of how large these pieces actually are.
It was an awesome second day of quilting.  If you ever have the chance to take a Judy Neimeyer class I encourage you to do so.  You will learn and grow as a quilter and the quilt you make will be "top drawer"!

Serious Quilter or What???

As I blogged about yesterday, today I went to the Judy Neimeyer quilting workshop in Camrose.
While there I saw something that made me laugh (doesn't take much for me)......
It's a sewing machine in the bathroom!!  I know some people read or do the crossword puzzle while in there, but until now I had never thought of quilting while in there!!  I don't know the exact reason for it being there, I just thought it was funny.
As for the Cactus Rose quilt I am making..... here is what I managed to accomplish today!  The one big portion took me almost 4 hours to make, the second I was better and got that down to 2 hours.  Both little pieces I was able to complete in under an hour.
To make this quilt into the queen size I chose, I will have to complete 9 in total of these full blocks - what you see is about 1/2 of the block.
Maybe I can finish the other half tomorrow and then only 8......
Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Zucchini-Chocolate Chip Muffins

Today I made Zucchini-Chocolate Chip Muffins to have a power snack for my BIG adventure tomorrow morning.
While lots of my acquaintances are in Salt Lake City for the Stampin' Up Convention and thought I should come I chose to stay home (plus my son still needs to be tucked in every night) and go the Judy Neimeyer Workshop at  Quilting from the Heart in Camrose,
 Alberta.
The quilt I will be making is the queen size Cactus Rose, of which there is a picture here on the Quilting from the Heart blog.  Originally I had wanted to make the Flowers for my Wedding Ring quilt, but did not get my vacation confirmed in time to be able to register for it, so took my second favorite.
Try the muffins, they are delicious!

Penguin Mug

This is the mug that my son painted for himself when we went to Crock a Doodle in Spruce Grove last week.
He has been so excited about using it that he has hand washed it for himself (and some other dishes in the sink) last night before dinner, after dinner, after breakfast and after dinner tonight!  Who new that painting their own crockery could get a kid to do dishes!!!  Yet another parenting tip from me (apparently I have some dandies).

Cupcake Platter

I recently took my son to Crock a Doodle in Spruce Grove, Alberta.
When we got there I found this cupcake platter and you know how I love cupcakes...., so I had to make this.
Picked it up this morning, now just have to make cupcakes for it!

Field Journal

My son is a scientist by nature.  When I clean out his backpack, I am usually liable to find a field journal.  I love reading these entries in these little books or scraps of paper, as they provide insight into how his brain works, and what is of importance in his daily quests.  The entries will be things like found a birds nest, no eggs, or three rocks under tree, one was brown.
Yesterday was his first day of science camp for the summer, so as a surprise I made and put this in the front pocket of his backpack!  He was thrilled when I came to pick him up last night!
To make this little treasure for an eight year old, I used a small composition book from the dollar store (3 for $1).
I used double sided sticky sheet to adhere some retired Celebrations Designer Series Paper.  I thought that the blue paper looked like it had atoms on it, and the numbers of course are for all things scientific!!
The owl of course is the owl punch from Stampin Up.  The velcro is left overs in my notions box for which I used double sided sticky sheet again to fit the piece to the front, as well as around the pencil.

Oh S"Crap"! It's Monday...

So, shhhh, I'm going to let you in on a little secret, my stash box of paper is not getting any smaller despite my weekly forays into it for this project!!!!
This week, I found a half a piece of some pink card stock (color - I don't know), the main image is stamped on Whisper White.
I used the En Francais background stamp in Chocolate Chip color stamped off once, so it would be light in color.
The image is from my new stamp set called Established Elegance and both of these images are stamped in Early Espresso ink.
The flowers are from the Triple Flower Punch and the ribbon, is again a left over...
Hope this inspires your own creativity...

What was I Thinking?

I really have no idea why on earth I have this stamp set.  I found it in my drawer today, and decided I should use it, but still am puzzling on why I have this stamp set.  The title of it is Precious Butterflies (I hate butterflies - well anything that flaps its wings and or crawls out of eggs - of which butterflies do both!!!).
I used the new In Colors of Stampin' Up for 2012 - 2014.  The base is Raspberry Ripple, a layer of Primrose Petals followed by a piece of glossy paper wax paper resisted sponged with Gumball Green, Summer Starfruit, and Primrose Petals.  The images were stamped with black Staz On ink and clear embossing powder over to set the design.
Not bad, but still, why do I have this set????

Two Minute Card

Yes, I made this card in 2 minutes!  I used Old Olive card stock for the base, a piece of Old Olive left over and a strip of Summer Smooches Designer Series Paper that was sitting looking at me.
The stamp set is also from the Button Buddies stamp set, and I used the playground buttons to create the flowers.  Very simple, quick and easy on a very hot day....

Pretty Flowers

I'm not really a fan of flowers.  Honest.
Yet, I LOVE this card!
The card base is Pacific Point, a layer of Whisper White on which I Versa-mark stamped with my Flower Fest stamp set (retired Stampin Up product - shhhh), then used clear embossing powder and heat set it.
The colors are sponged in and I love these colors.  They are from the Ranger Summer Inks collection.  The leaves were just stamped on with the mowed lawn color and then I used my blender pen to color in the leaves. The flower centers are some left over pearls I found in the drawer.  I have another way that I am going to play with this card hopefully this weekend, and possibly make it even better!!!

Moose with Cake Birthday Card

A couple of weeks ago Scrapbook Memories & More had a stamp sale, and this moose with cake is one of the stamps that my son thought we "had to have".  I did have to agree with him as Cake Riley is pretty cute!
Today I used a piece of Pacific Point card stock, along with a piece of yellow polka dot paper (from the scraps - not sure what set it belongs to), stamped the image and colored with my Copic Markers.
The greeting is stamped with the Sweet Wishes stamp set.  The ribbon is from the Summer Smooches Collection from Stampin' Up.

Canadiana Socks Felted

I have finally got my Canadiana Socks felted (Original Post for these socks).  It took three hot washes and two hot dryer runs to get them to a size sevenish (so that there is still room for a light sock inside).  After the wash today I put them on while I sat in the lounge chair in the back yard.  They were great as at first the wet in them kept my feet cool, and then after an hour or so when they were dry they were just nice and comfortable.
I am so going to be making more of these.....

Cupcake Birthday Card

Today is another super hot day outside, so I decided to stay in for a bit this afternoon.
I thought about cleaning up my craft room, but look at the stuff I found!!!!
The base of this card is some random piece of light brown paper (source - who can know), the cupcake is made using Sweet Shop Designer Series paper from Stampin' Up, and the cupcake base is another piece from Stampin' Up called Soft Suede.
I used my Balloons and Cupcakes Die to make the cupcake, and the greeting is from the coordinating stamp set (love it when that happens), the candle is from the Sweet Wishes stamp set.
Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Third Birthday Party

Today was my son's actual birthday, however, his third party this year.
Due to having a summer birthday we had a party with his friends before school was finished, last weekend a party with grandma and auntie, and today the real one.
By the time we get to the third cake, I really did not feel like making another, so we had Sponge Bob cupcakes, and left over jelly fish and sharks.
Happy Birthday Trey!

Knitting in the F-350

When we travel, I knit.  This was one of my projects today on the way home from Banff.
On Thursday I stopped by Knit and Caboodle in Canmore.  While I have never found the staff to be particularly friendly or helpful, they do have some awesome yarns one of which is local to Canmore that I love to pick up when in town.
This yarn is from the Sugar'n Cream Yarns collection, and I loved the colors. But what to do with it, and the store only had one of these in stock (or so I could find by myself)?  A quick look online to the manufactures website, and I found this pattern for a bath mitt!
TAH DAH!!!

Canadiana Socks

I went to River City Yarns last week to get double pointed needles  for a project I was going to start while camping in Banff, however, found these instead!  The pattern is super easy to follow, and goes together very quickly!

Stamp Set of the Month Club

If you follow my blog at all, (and really, who wouldn't), you will know that I am a subscriber of Stamp of the Month Club offered by my friend and Stampin Up demonstrator Karina.
This month the Stamp set is called postage due.  I love the retro graphics on it and as soon as I get back from Banff, I will be playing with this set.

Cupcake Card

Everyone knows I LOVE cupcakes.  Why?  Why not?
For this card I used a piece of Pool Party card stocked, topped with a piece of Designer Series Paper from the Sweet Shop Collection, a coordinating band of Calypso Coral, and Whisper White on which to stamp the image.
Now the image......I was doing alright til I got to the cupcake image and although everything til now was Stampin Up, I broke out my new Penny Black Sweet Wishes stamp set.  I did color the images with the Stampin' Write Markers in the In Colors, but I really like this cupcake and the entire set (shhhhhh).

Canada Day T-shirt

I love all things red and white with the maple leaf on them.  One simply cannot own too many Roots products.  I made this T-shirt albeit after Canada Day last summer and have been waiting to wear it.  I bought the T-shirt for $4.99 at that large craft store with the 40% off coupon (they will remain nameless due to my numerous dislikes of the operation).  The red fabric is left overs from my Canada Day Table Runner.   The maple leaves (not Maple Leafs) are cut in the Big Shot die cut using the Leaves 2 die cut, and the letters are die cut by borrowing Karina's letters die cut.  All of the fabric cuts are adhered with Wonder Under and then satin stitched in place.  Wore it for Canada Day, and got lots of questions as to where I got it!!!

Canada Day Soap

Every year for the past few years I make soaps for Canada Day.
We always spend Canada Day in either Jasper National Park or Banff National Park.  This year was Banff.
Making these soaps is always an art as getting the red the right color is always tricky, some years we have pink soap, others maroon would be more like.  This year.....close.
Hope you all had a wonderful Canada Day, and Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Oh S"Crap"! It's Monday

It's that time of week again to dig through the stash (paper not cookies) again.
Today I found a piece of Garden Green, Cherry Cobbler and a bit of Whisper White and decided it was really time to start thinking about Christmas (after all the longest day of the year has passed and winter is on it's way).
I embossed the Snow Swirled stamp set in Cherry Cobbler and Silver, used a left over piece of Cherry Cobbler Satin ribbon from last Christmas.  I ran the Cherry Cobbler card stock through the Snow Burst Embossing Folder and TAH DAH.  Another card made from scraps!

Happy Canada Day, I am Canadian!

My friend Kathleen once asked the question that many of you are probably asking right now "Who would make a table runner for Canada Day"?  To which I will give the response I gave her "Who wouldn't"?
I made this beauty a couple of years ago and since it has never been on my blog before, today is the perfect day for it.  I got this as a kit from Loris Country Cottage and although you may not be able to see well enough the white, red, and tan fabrics all have maple leaves in the print!  The surrounding pattern is obvious in it's print as to what it is.  I love this table runner, and yes every year it graces my table with patriot pride from June 30th until it's first spill somewhere around July 02.  I have posted here a couple of links appropriate for today:
I Am Canadian Anthem
God Bless You Canada
 Have an AWESOME Canada Day!!
