Hello!!!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

After a whirlwind fall I am going to return to my blogging.  Lots of activity around here and in my world.  All of it positive and I shall share that over the next bitπŸ˜ƒ.

Crafting has taken a bit of a back seat for a bit but I have a beautiful dedicated space in which to sew and craft.  🧡

Over the last week I have again started to work on my Lush quilt.  Love this quilt because it is in my favourite navy colour as well as the design is a Wing and a Prayer original.  Anyone who knows me, I kinda fly through life on this mantra.  This evening I started to put some of the block parts together:

Love how this is coming together and hopefully over the next 2 weeks of Christmas vacation I shall get more completed.

Til later.....wishing you a BEST Day EVER Saturday.

Here We Go Again...

Good Evening Internet Friends!!!

Another work week is about to start and so here we go again....  There just does not seem to be enough time in the weekend to get everything done that I would like to.

Breakfast this morning was fresh fruit, whipped cream and maple syrup waffles:
YUMMMM!!!  As a bonus I made a double batch so that we would have waffles for breakfast this week as well.

For the lunch box I made fresh tomato soup with some home grown tomatoes that I was given:

I was also given a garden pumpkin that I cooked and mashed.  Most of the mashed pumpkin went to the freezer but I did make two loaves of banana, pumpkin, walnut bread.  This will also be in the lunch box tomorrow ☺

For dinner I made a chicken breast sheet pan dinner.  Garden potatoes, onions, zucchini and cauliflower that I was given along with red, green, yellow and orange peppers, and mushrooms.  I drizzled a fresh dill and mustard sauce over all and baked.  Dinner for this evening and a couple days of left overs as well.
Super YUM!!!

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you all the
BEST Day EVER Monday tomorrow.  πŸ₯³

A Brand New Week..

Good Evening Internet Friends!!

A Brand New Week full of Wonderful Opportunities has arrived.

Back to work and school this morning.  The light drizzle when I took the doggie out for his 0500 stroll was a nice refreshing way to start the day.

Work and then a medical appointment this afternoon had me coming home via a different route so traffic was lighter than usual.

After dinner and all the house hold chores I decided to give myself a bit of time in my quilting room.  I made Block 17 of the 2017 Flock of Geese 52 Week Challenge.  I lost some of these blocks during the move last fall and so had to re-start from scratch.  I thought I would be okay not doing the 2017 quilt but realized I would not be.  "Sew"  here is Block 17:

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you all the
BEST Day EVER Tuesday.  πŸŽ‰

Sunday Funday!!!

Good Evening Internet Friends!!!

Super busy day today.  Mostly housework type things but I did manage to get another Let's Be Friends Sew Along block completed:

As of this week I am supposed to have 44 of these beauties complete.  As you can guesstimate.....I am a few short.  🀷

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you all the

Week Something Something...

Good Evening Internet Friends!!!

"Sew" at the start of this year I started on the 52 Week Jewel Block Challenge hosted by A Needle Pulling Thread Quilt Shop.

By the end of this week I should have 37 of these blocks:

Of course in typical Kathy fashion......I am a few weeks behind but of course there is always hope that I can get caught up πŸ₯³

Still using my seemingly never ending pile of scrap fabric.

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you all the
 BEST Day EVER Saturday tomorrow!πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

Back in the Saddle...

Good Evening Internet Friends!!

Well....back in the saddle again.  First full week of back to school and work.

After kiddos orthodontic appointment this evening (he blew another bracket.....seriously), dinner, house tidy and dog walk I took a wee bit of time to myself in my craft room.

Meet Block 16 of the 2017 Flock of Geese 52 Week Challenge:

TAH DAH!!!

At this time the 2015 quilt is completed and in use.  The 2016 and 2018 are awaiting dates with the longarmer.  This 2017 and 2019 are in various stages of completion but I am hoping for an end of year (or close) finish on these.

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you all the
BEST Day EVER Wednesday πŸ₯³

I Lost Summer 2019!!!

Good Evening Internet Friends!!

Okay....., seriously.... I LOST summer!!!  The weather station is reporting that there was 54 days of rain this summer.  It is now September 1 and good news.....it is still raining.   I love a good rain but even I am over this!!!🌧☔

Today I did a whole lot of nothing......did some house work, laundry, cleaning etc.  Helped a friend and her sister get her business set up a bit more.

After an amazing pizza from I Dream of Pizza I took my bike out for a ride around the hood.

Once I had my 7 miles done for the evening I set about making another block for my Let's Be Friends Sew Along.  Using scraps from other projects for mine and traditional piecing:

TAH DAH!!!  Not sure exactly how many of these exactly I am supposed to make but of course I am  behind πŸ™ƒ

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you all a
 BEST Day EVER Monday tomorrowπŸ₯³

And Then........

Good Evening Internet Friends!!!

Long time no posting on here.  Not that I have not been creative.......just too busy somehow.

This evening I took a wee bit of time after my 7 mile bike ride and walking the dog to sew Block 15 of my 2017 52 Week Block Challenge.  I got behind on these but I also know that if I do not finish this set of quilt blocks I will disappoint myself.

"SEW" without further banter meet Flock of Geese Blocks 1 through 15:

Okay that's it for my crafty accomplishment for the today!

If I knit a wee bit more on the current sock I started I just might pop by and show you all that tomorrow ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you all the
BEST Day EVER Tuesday πŸŽ‰πŸ₯³.

"Sew"ing Along....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Woke up early again this morning cause I guess that is what is going to happen on Summer Vacation.

Out early with the dog and then did some tidying up in my craft room.

Earlier this week I decided to participate in the Let's Be Friends Sew Along hosted by Border Creek Station Pattern Company.  I chose to use scrap fabrics because as we ALL know I seem to have an abundant supply of those.

Here are the two blocks I completed this week:

I will likely end up making two blocks at a time for the simple reason that the center block piecing makes two blocks at once☺

Had left overs for dinner this evening so might even be able to sneak in a bit of knitting before taking doggie out for his last walk.

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you all the
BEST Day EVER Sunday ♫.

Friday Finish!!!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Today I finished a project I started two days ago!!!  Amazing what a little bit of a time crunch can do to motivate a person.

A very loooooooooooooooooooooooong time ago I had agreed to participate in a Christmas Block exchange using the Peppermint Lane Quilt Pattern.

The idea is that I make 12 blocks and send 11 on to other participants and in return I will get 11 different blocks with which to make this quilt.  These are due to be mailed out on or before July 15.  So......in typical Kathy fashion I start to sew these on July 02, 2019.

I will be posting these out tomorrow morning once I figure out who exactly I am to post these to. πŸ˜•

Earlier this week I purchased the BIGGEST size of cauliflower I have ever seen.  Now of course I would not want to waste this and I am currently not planning any party snacks.  I decided to make Cauliflower Dal for dinner and of course one should have naan bread with that too, so I made a batch of garlic naan bread as well (I added the garlic cause I found a whole bunch of it in the fridge too):

The Cauliflower Dal turned out AMAZING, I did substitute sour cream for the yogurt because I don't keep plain yogurt in the house.  Personally I don't trust the stuff.....what is it trying to hide and or what is it trying to become...it has no identity...

There are lots of left overs from this so the good news is we can get a couple of dinners from it and a few freezer lunches which means I can get a bit more quilting in tomorrow.

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you all the
BEST Day EVER Saturday.πŸ₯³

I'm Seeing Red.....and White...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Did some more blocks today on my 2018 Red and White 52 Week Block Quilt hosted by A Needle Pulling Thread Quilt Shop:

I am going to make this quilt 60 blocks rather than the 52 as I want it to have overhang on my bed and not just cover the top!!

A few more blocks and I will be done.  Fingers crossed maybe I will have it done before I go back to work....πŸ˜•

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you all the
BEST Day EVER ThursdayπŸ₯³

Still Awake.....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

So......today was first day of my summer vacation and I had big plans to do NOTHING!

Well.....the day started out at 0417 hours this morning when I had been asleep for almost 4 hours.  No matter how much I tried to return to sleep I was unsuccessful.  So at 0500 I got up and took doggie out for a very long walk and a bike ride.  Returning home he went straight to sleep. πŸ•  Must be nice.

Mid morning I decided that I should start on the blocks I need to do for a Block Swap I agreed to participate in.  What was I thinking????  Good News is that as of this evening half of the blocks are complete and I REALLY like these blocks so I might just end up making some for myself yet so that I have a quilt too!

Part way through this process kiddo informed me that he had lost another bracket on his orthodontic hardware so off to the other side of the city for that to be fixed.

I took my knitting of course as sometimes these appointments can get rather lengthy.  This appointment was sooooooo long that I knit a pair of socks!!!  Okay, not really I just finished 10 rows of the foot and then the toe.  Stitched it up when I got home and wore these out for dog walk this evening with my capri pants because I was too lazy to change into regular pants!

These socks are called the Bookbinders Sock and the yarn is from Sweet Georgia as a special colour way for a Sock Crush subscription box from earlier this year.  It's been a few months since I have been in wool socks daily so it was nice to wear these again.  🧦

There seems to be a little more time in my days since I have been home now for 4 full days.

For dinner this evening I made asparagus, mozzarella, chive stuffed chicken breasts wrapped with turkey bacon (I am stuffing that stuff in everything I can right now!  Along with garlic mashed potatoes and a green salad dinner was served.  It was delicious!

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you all the
BEST Day EVER Wednesday tomorrow.  πŸ₯³

Canada Day 2019πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

Good Evening Internet Friends!!!

I hope everyone had an awesome Canada Day today!

The day was mostly rainy so kiddo and I did not get out too much.  I did take a nap this afternoon and that was needed I think as still tired feeling.

Before nap I did make cupcakes for Canada Day.  The Canadian Cupcake Caper struck before I could get a pic but you get the idea:

And yes these are tasty!!

After dinner I started sorting through my scrap fabric pile as I have found another way to use up some more of my scrap fabric pile.

This is called the Let's Be Friend's Sew Along hosted by the Border Creek Station Pattern Company.  SEW Fun!!!

One block down and a few inches of fabric used up.  Now....back to regularly scheduled quilting.

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you all the
BEST Day EVER TuesdayπŸ˜πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

Take Time to Smell the Roses...

Good Evening Internet Friends!!!

A couple of weeks ago I took my bicycle in for a tune up......the same bicycle that I have had several mishaps with.  Turns out that to fix it and still have a slightly bent frame would cost almost as much as a new bike.  I opted for the new bike option with no frame issues.  A bit of my bike was salvageable for parts to a charity that creates bikes for kids in need.  I LOVE my new bike!!!  Not only is it way more awesome than my old one, but it has hot pink trim on it.  Plus I added a donut bell to it: 🍩

I have been making a lot of trail and off road miles with this bike of late.

Today while I was out I literally Took Time to Smell the roses.  They were beautiful:

And then of course my eyes itched and I started sneezing, but still they were really pretty.  🌹

Recently I also started working seriously on my Lush Block of the Month offered by Sew Devine.

I have managed to  very slowly get these 4 blocks done:

I LOVE the colors in these blocks and the points lined up so that made me extra happy.

This weekend I got started on the Dresden plate blocks.  These are going to take more time, but I did get all 84 Dresden blades cut out this weekend so that throughout the week I can sew a bit and maybe actually accomplish something by next weekend.  Here are my first completed 12:

These are tedious to make but I am getting better at them. πŸ₯³

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you a
BEST Day EVER Monday tomorrow.

Happy Birthday!!!

Good Evening Internet Friends!!

One of the things I did today was a total experiment.  A colleague of my has her 50th Birthday tomorrow and I decided to make her a cake.  I should mention that she is Vegan.

After a LOT of searching for recipes I decided on one that called for Soy Milk.  After discovering that Soy Milk only comes in 2 Litre containers of which I only  needed a cup for the cake I gave up cause I have no purpose for the rest of that milk, and it is not cheap.

Later in the day I discovered a can of coconut milk in my pantry.  I use coconut milk to make jasmine rice.

I decided to bake the cake with coconut milk.  Since the recipe no longer fit for coconut milk I set about making a cake on my own.πŸŽ‚

Here is what I managed to produce:
 Before Baking.

After Baking.

The cake was topped with Coco Whip and actually tastes pretty good.

Will see tomorrow how well this is received.

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you all the
BEST Day EVER Monday.  πŸ₯³

Rest In Peace...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

I always get to tell people that I have the BEST job EVER.  I get to be there for people in their time of need whether that be acute or chronic.  I get to learn about what makes each of them who they are.  One of my patient's over the years I have learned and heard about his love of gardening and been the recipient of many boxes of tomatoes, zucchini, carrots, cucumbers, dill and apples from his garden.  Every year he starts a ridiculous number of seedlings from the seeds that he harvests in the fall.  A few weeks back he brought in for me tomato and pepper seedlings.  Today I found out that he passed away suddenly the day after he dropped these off for me:😿

Guess I will be harvesting the seeds from these tomatoes and peppers this fallπŸ…πŸŒΆ.

Took a bit of time to myself after doggie walk this evening in the craft room and made another of the 52 Week Block Challenge Red and White blocks:

TAH DAH!!!!

Smokin'

Good Evening Internet Friends!

WOW!!!  I had not realized how long it has been since I did a blog post.  Too much on the go but I do try to get a bit of creative ME time in every day🧡

Yesterday I came home from work early due to the heavy smoke that we have been gifted from the forest fires in Northern Alberta. There was ash on my car and on the deck!  After a couple of hours of the smoke entering the clinic with each patient I started to wheeze and cough!  My asthma and allergies have been acting up to start with this spring.

Today I stayed home as the air quality still remains poor.  Took a couple of naps because breathing is hard work.  Seriously.

I did make dinner:

Barbecue lentil stuffed sweet potatoes topped with salsa, sour cream and Parmesan cheese.  A side of broccoli salad rounded out the meal as well as moved a couple of items out of the refrigerator.  πŸ₯˜

I did a bit of knitting today between naps as not a lot of energy to do anything.  I did also finish the embroider (for lack of a better word) on the quilt label that I started for the quilt I gifted my friend last year at her wedding:

Family members who along wit me attended have their names underneath as well.

Hopefully this weekend I can get this label sewed on and give it back to her Monday.  That will clean something out of my craft room!!

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you all the
BEST Day EVER Saturday tomorrow.

Cheers.

And then there were THREE!!!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Well, the weekend has come to a close.  I am looking forward to heading back to work tomorrow.  I still intermittently have no voice, but the cough has got better.

I did manage between my naps to make Block 3 of my Block of the Month from Sew Divine:

Hack.....Hack...Hello...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Today is the first time in almost 2 weeks that I have been up long enough to accomplish anything and to blog about it!!!

I managed to somehow contact what I am going to describe as the Plague of 19.  It has been a looooooong time since I have been this ill!

Today after a few naps I did manage to make three more portions for my Lush Block of the Month from Sew Divine:

TAH DAH!!!  Only three more of these and I will be almost caught up!

Hope this inspires your own creativity and withing you the
BEST Day EVER Saturday πŸ₯³

Oh Where oh Where did the Weekend Go....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

I cannot believe that the Easter Weekend is over!!  Today I spent trying to keep a head cold and its awful symptoms away.....not sure if I will win or not!!

I did manage somehow over this chaotic weekend to get the last three of my Twisted Star Quilt blocks completed!

This is the quilt that I joined a guild just to get the class at a reduced rate and paid a total of 130$ for.  Class got postponed because the weather, however, I did drive to Calgary that weekend and it was fine.  I bit cold but that was all.  When I asked if I could get the pattern at least to complete the quilt because I would not be able to attend the new class date I was told that I would have to buy the pattern.  "Sew"  I decided to stop wasting money on this project and using the cutting instructions and the picture away I went.  Thankfully I do know how to sew.  😎

Eventually after all the patchwork blocks and 6 of the star blocks were completed the quilt designer did send me the pattern so that I could reference her as the inspiration for this quilt:

I LOVE the bright colors of this quilt and it will look amazing on my navy leather sofa!!!

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you the
BEST Day EVER Monday.  πŸŽ‰

To the Emergency!!!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Kiddo and I spent most of today at the Stollery.  As a previous PICU RN and trained Pediatric Nurse I am always so grateful that we live in a place where children have their own hospital.  Kiddo has been having cough cold symptoms for a week now.  Of course the RN mom in me says - "Go to school and wash your hands".  This morning however I knew that this had gone on too long.  His pediatrician is closed on the weekends and if I were to take him to a walk in clinic he would get antibiotics which he likely does not need.  So.....off to Stollery.

As usual they took EXCELLENT care of him and he always likes that everyone knows who is mom is so that helps too!!

This evening after a soup dinner, and an Easter goodie bag drop off to a friend I finished this Basic Tote Bag that I started almost a week ago:

This is my modified version of the Basic Tote Bag#1.  This was a free pattern that I picked up years ago at a Quilt Shop and then increased the size of to make it the size I wanted.

This is the first of these bags that I have made in a while as I got very frustrated sewing these bags on demand for other people "sew" I just QUIT.  Now I will only be making them again as gifts or for myself which is how it was supposed to be!

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you the BEST Day Easter Sunday EVER!!!πŸŽ‰

Good Friday...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

I hope that everyone had a Blessed Good Friday.

Today I did a lot of baking in preparation for Easter.

Kiddo is still under the weather with the cold/flu thing he has had for almost a week.

First off I made Buttermilk Waffles for breakfast:

SO YUM!!!

Then I decided to make Babka (the link will take you to the recipe I use - and as always the raisins were picked from the trail mix bag).

Rubber Dinosaur (that is his proper name) stood watch over the entire process.

SO YUM with fresh butter!

Earlier in the week I found sour cabbage heads at the No Frills.  There is a really nice and clean one close to my house and I stop there for things that Costco does not carry like green onions and radishes and random zucchini.

Of course I had to make Cabbage Rolls:

With neither kiddo nor I feeling well this was comfort food!!!

Might relax with my knitting for a bit this evening.

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you the
Best Day EVER SaturdayπŸŽ‰

Sunday Funday!!!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Today of course was get ready for the week ahead.

Part of my undertakings today were to raid the freezer!

First off I took out ground bison and pumpkin and made Bison Pumpkin Bolognese:
This will end up in kiddo's thermos this week for hot lunch☺

Next up was frozen cranberries that I made Cranberry Oatmeal Bars with.  I even took some of these over for the neighbors:

This evening after dinner I spent a wee bit of time in my craft room and made Block 15 of the 52 Week Block Challenge hosted by A Needle Pulling Thread Quilt Shop:

Look Closely.....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Okay, seriously.....you do have to look closely....the largest piece of fabric in here is 2.5" square!!!

I LOVE the colors and how this block went together.  Since I am pretty frugal with my cutting I am going to see if I can make another three of these and turn them in to place mats for the dinner table!!

This is one of the blocks from the Simple Whatnots Club 8.  I believe this block was a bonus block.

This is about the extent of my day.

Kiddo and I did take doggie out to the hay field close to our house and we launched balls for close to an hour.  Kiddo and dog were both tired after that!

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you all the
BEST Sunday EVER!!!

Full Steam Ahead...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Well.......This evening was Full Steam Ahead as I not only sewed on my latest red and white row; I also made another red and white block to start the next row!!!

I am LOVING this quilt.  I am thinking that I may end up making this larger than the 52 blocks as I think this quilt in a large enough size to cover my bed with some drape down the sides will look FANTASTIC!!!!

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you the
BEST Friday EVER!!!πŸŽ‰

You Bought What????

Good Evening Internet Friends!

If you follow my blog (which of course who wouldn't), you will likely know that I have a philosophy that if you cannot buy something at Costco you should question if you really need the item!

While there last week I came across an entire bag of Eggplant!!!  Seriously.  Well.....I could NOT leave that behind.  So this evening when I got home from work I set about making Eggplant Parmesan for Dinner.  Yes, ALL the ingredients in this dish and for all of dinner are from Costco:

Eggplant Parmesan, Brioche Bun, Fresh Green Beans Steamed, and Pan Seared Steak with Butter Balsamic Vinaigrette Sauce!!!  So YUMMY!

Then it was off to a prayer Vigil for a long time family friend's Father in Law.

When we returned home I sewed all of the red and white blocks I currently have together and made another row!

Hope this inspires your own creativity and wishing you all the
BEST Thursday EVER πŸŽ‰
