Cat Crazy!!!

Good Evening Internet Friends.

Busy day of running errands and doing a few things that needed to be done including installing the new over the range microwave!!!  Over a week since the old one exploded....had no idea how many times a day I use that appliance until it was gone.

This evening I took a bit of time to work on a few knitting projects and to sew the medium blocks together on my Tabby Road Quilt:

Tomorrow hopefully I will have a bit of time to sew or at least start sewing blocks together.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Holy Cats!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

The busy week is finally over.  Now to prepare for a busy weekend ☺

This evening I went out with some friends for a dinner party.  Great food, and friends made for a wonderful evening and a way to unwind after the week.

Arriving home, but not too late cause I am getting old.......I decided to sew some of the Tabby Road blocks together from the fabric I got at 4 Paws Quilting last week:

The large rectangles are now sewn to the small rectangles.  Tomorrow I will try to sew the medium rectangles to the other medium rectangles.  ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Another Knitting Project

Good Evening Internet Friends!

I started yet another knitting project this evening.  Seriously!!!  I must not have enough on the go.....

This one is a yarn that my friend and neighbour Sharon of 4Paws Quilting brought in for her store ☺

There are three colour ways but this one is my favourite:

The yarn is not only very pretty in colour it is fun to work with because the yarn thickness changes throughout the skein 😺!

It seems to be pretty quick and easy to work with so might have something ready to show you all soon.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Block 15!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Back to school for my son and work for me.  A busy day in general along with extra curricular activities.

This evening I took a wee bit of time in my craft room and made Block 15 of the Flock of Geese Challenge from A Needle Pulling Thread Quilt Shop:

I am still a week behind but hopefully I can catch up this week and maybe even get a couple more of last years Star Blocks done!!!  😸

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Holiday Over......

Good Evening Internet Friends.

The Easter Holiday is over and it's back to work and school tomorrow.

On Friday I did a Drive By of 4Paws Quilting - as some of you know Sharon the owner is also my neighbour so had I not already been out it would have been a Walk By trip.  I had no intentions of picking up anything - my craft room my husband has told me would be a de-commissioned site if feeral inspectors were to see it.  I also had no intention of EVER bringing home the fabric I did but once I saw it I had to get it.

My Grammy is a huge influence on my life and who I am as well as still my cheerleader despite having a stroke almost two years ago as a side effect of her atrial fibrillation.  She is a woman who was always ahead of her time.  She is the reason that I knew at three years of age I wanted to be a Registered Nurse.  She knew that she needed a post secondary education, she inspired her daughter to get post secondary education and myself as well.

She is left handed and sometimes lacks fine motor skills as throughout all of her education she was forbidden to use her left hand.  As such she did not perform a lot of fine art activities but at one time she did do two paint by number paintings.  These paintings are still in the living room of her home.

When I saw the fabric Sharon had on Friday it reminded me of those paintings!  So, I got not one but two bundles of this fabric!

This one will be made into a quilt and sent to Grammy because the colours are bright and she adores bright colours.

This bundle reminded me of Grammy's paintings ☺

This evening I took some time in my craft room and cut up the orange fabric so that I can start sewing it together tomorrow ☺

It really is cute fabric!

Thanks Sharon for once again finding a fabric that has meaning, and a story to someone's life ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Happy Easter!

Good Late Evening Internet Friends!

I hope that each of you had a wonderful and blessed Easter Day.

My son, the dogs, and I slept late again.

Had freshly toasted Babka for breakfast and searched the house for chocolate.  I am positive that I found it all - but at my age - who knows????

Then we went for brunch with my dear friend Sharon and her husband.  It was a wonderful brunch and for my son and I it was super special because it was the being part of a "bigger" family unit than just us ☺

I did a bit of knitting this afternoon while dinner was cooking, but then a random nap occurred.

After dinner I decided to go down to my craft room.  Had not been there all weekend.

First off I decided it was time to perform the finishing touches on the yarn I dyed at Vogue Knitting Live Las Vegas:

The colours are now set and I gave it a quick rinse in Soak wash that I begged Sharon to stock at 4Paws Quilting.  It is now haning to dry over the laundry tub.  Hopefully I can get started on it later this week ☺

Next up I decided I should tidy up my quilting desk for some serious quilting tomorrow.   There was a lot of scrap fabric from the 2 sheep Knitting Project Bags I have made of recent so rather than putting it away I made:

A lined, zippered pouch!!!!! I happened to have a zipper and some mystery interfacing that made this a Top Drawer Project as my son would say ☺ I did not use a pattern, but think that later this week I might make another one from some scraps and show you how I did it!

It's "SEW" fun!!!

That's all folks.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

A Big Day of Not Really Anything

Good Evening Internet Friends!

I would like to tell you I accomplished something absolutely AMAZING and over the top today, but alas, I did not.

I slept late.  I played around on the computer for a bit after breakfast.

After lunch I knit a bit but nothing worthwhile to show you.

Then I got the brilliant idea I should cut the Shih tzu's hair.  So, I did and it took almost three hours.  Is it done well???  Easy answer: NO.  I figure since everyone today is an expert in something due to You Tube that I can be an expert at trimming the dog.  My son did point out though that I did not watch a You Tube video on cutting a dog's hair I just do it.  That being said, I think I did better this time compared to last year ☺

Dog does not like this - I think he knows the other dogs will taunt him ☺

Then I did decide that I should bake some Ukrainian Babka since both Easter celebrations coincide this year. It will be a little odd seeing Babka and the Lindt Gold Bunny on the same table.  Of course there were no raisins in the hous because I personally hate the little things with the exception of in Babka.  I found a bag of trail mix and had my son raid that for 1 cup of raisins.

I added extra Turmeric so that it would be a really pretty yellow!  So Yummy!

This evening I spent some time working on a Ukrainian Cross Stitch Towel:

It's coming along nicely and I hope to be able to start on another of these projects I have been contemplating now for awhile.

I hope you as well had a wonderful day and as always

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Good Friday...

Good Late Evening Everyone.

Today was a very relaxing day for my son and I.

First off we slept late.

We had pancakes with berries for breakfast:

After lunch and finding out that the microwave exploded - seriously - made a loud spark - some bright flash and now it sits there hanging above the stove looking sad.......I'm sad though too - we headed out in the snow to the Lindt Factory!  I LOVE that place and there always seems to be a really good sale on!

Helping out the Easter Bunny this year as not sure what kind of financial situation he is in with the current economy ☺

This evening I spent time sewing another Knitting Project Bag and writting a pattern for it as well for my friend Sharon of 4Paws Quilting.  Sharon will be participating in the Claresholm Fibre Arts and Quilt Fair in May and will be kitting up some of these bags to take along:

Another day I will post some of the how to's for this project in case there are questions about how I create this bag ☺

"Sew" that was my relaxing Good Friday and I hope everyone had one as well.

Hope this inspires your onw creativity...

Trying to Catch Up....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Worked my evening shift for this month today so now I get to start the Easter Weekend.

My son and I are both off now for the next four days and we really have no plans except to enjoy ourselves.

This evening just so that I could declare I had been creative I spent a wee bit of time in the craft room and made Block 14 of the Flock of Geese Block Challenge from A Needle Pulling Thread Quilt Shop:

I was then planning to do a bit of knitting before going to sleep but apparently the Lab/Lap dog had other plans:

Off to sleep then I guess...

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

FUN Mail!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Busy day and busy evening so other than a little knitting after I got my son to bed not much creativity.

Arriving home this evening I did a wonderful surprise - okay - I knew it was coming, but it was still fun to get!!!

This is my April 2017 Sock Crush:

TAH DAH!!!!!!!!

I love the colours and the texture of this yarn and will try the lip balm later.

Now to knit a bit more on last month's sock so that I can get started on these pretties ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

A Two for One Kinda Day...

Good Late Evening Internet Friends!

This evening I had the opportunity to spend some time in my craft room as usually I am out at Boy Scouts with my son.

Today however, I had to have an eye exam that involved my vision being distorted for several hours.   As such my son and I wandered the mall close to my appointment and even ate dinner at the mall until I could see clearly ☺

Arriving home he finished the filming for his Language Arts project and I stayed out of the way in my craft room!  A perfect solution and such an awesome parent I might add.....

Here are Blocks 12 & 13 of the Flock of Geese Challenge Blocks organised by A Needle Pulling Thread Quilt Shop:

Now off to knit a bit before bed and back to work tomorrow.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Knitting Bag

Good Late Evening Internet Friends!

No doubt I should probably be in bed, but I am just getting a few last things ready and then will retire in my cozy bed with my knitting for the evening right away.

Today I was able to spend a bit of time in my craft room while my son did his video animation of his language arts project.  My entire kitchen floor was filled with various toys to create the story.

"Sew" I decided to sew myself a knitting bag out of the sheep fabric that I got at my friend and neighbour Sharon's 4 Paws Quilting:

I am pretty excited about this bag because I even put a couple of pockets and a flap pocket inside it to keep my knitting needles and stitch markers in while my projects are in transit.  ☺

I think that my very own skein of hand dyed yard will be my first project in this bag.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Sock Knitting!!!

Good Late Evening Internet Friends!

Well,  I finally did it!!!   I had a fellow knitter that I met in Vegas (yes, not everything stays in Vegas) over this evening to knit with me!  I have never knit with someone else.  Sure, I have knit in public and with the family at home, but never with another knitter.

It was a very productive session as I was able to finish one of my March 2017 Sock Crush socks!!!

I really love these socks because of their bright colours - you might be able to guess from this picture that I love bright colours [socks, tuffet, needles]☺

The yarn was a Sweetgerogia special dye for the subscription.  I thought that the pattern enclosed for this colour way was too busy and so I opted for a picot cuff and just plain stockinette stitch so that I could see the colours!

I LOVE it.  Now to see if I can get the second one done before this month's subscription arrives later this week ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Marshmallows A Plenty!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Some of you will know that 4 Paws Quilting is away on a quilting retreat this weekend.  Now, what could possibly be more fun and unexpected than Marshmallows????

I actually made two batches.  One as reTREATs for the retreat and one for my son just for fun.

Here are the quilt reTREATs:

Toasted Coconut Marshmallows ☺

All packaged ☺

The batch I made for my son.  These ones have spring seasonal sprinkles on them to make them just a little bit more fun for children and that includes almost teenagers!  ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Baggin' It!!!

Good Late Evening Internet Friends!

Super busy the past couple of days with work and all the things I manage to get myself into.

One of the things I agreed to do a while ago but never actually got around to doing it was the making a Tote Bag Kit from 4 Paws Quilting.

Since Sharon is attending a retreat this weekend I decided I should actually finish this tote bag and so that is what I did!!!

TAH DAH!!!!  It's done.

She has some other navy and white/nautical fabrics in for kits for these bags as well so you can likely imagine who might want one of those (wink)...

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Today was a great day, not only because I had no real commitments or obligations but also because my friend and neighbour Sharon of 4 Paws Quilting brought in a line of products that no only cater to my love of knitting but also my love of colouring.  Now, these are not wax crayons, but it is still colouring and I think that is pretty "Top Drawer".

I spent a fair bit of time this afternoon colouring on the Tote Bag and the two knitting cases.  One case is for my single point needles and circular cables.  The other is for my double point needles and some of the smaller circular cables and tips!

I had so much fun colouring on these items!

I know it is bedtime, but part of me wants to colour just one more area.....

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

I'm DONE!!!!

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Today was a whole lot of little nothings that managed to take up the entire day but now that they are done I hope to have a more meaningful Kathy day tomorrow ☺

One of the little things as such that I did accomplish today was the final assembly of my Anne of Green Gables Quilt that I got from my friend and neighbours shop 4 Paws Quilting.  I had hoped to be able to deliver it for long arming while I was on vacation but alas I only sewed 6 rows of blocks together.

This evening all the rows became the quilt centre and borders were added!  ☺

I am really excited about this one as not only do I really love Anne of Green Gables but this story is a Canadian classic and as you likely know Canada is celebrating it's 150th Birthday this year!

Here is my quilt sort of stretched out (kid and dogs keep moving it):

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Very early this morning we arrived home.  By the time we unpacked the car to make sure nothing perished it was just before 0300 hours ☺

We had a wonderful vacation and over the next few days I will show you some of the things we saw and collected on our Road Trip.

This evening though I will show you what I managed to accomplish in 930 miles (1497 km) yesterday.

First off I finished the Team Canada Hat Trick Yarn socks for hubby:

As you may know hubby works in a remote fly in Campsite job and spends 12+ hours a day in safety shoes that are not known to be especially comfortable or that warm.  He LOVES the wool socks that I "custom" knit as he says for him. ☺

Once I finished these I started on March 2017 Sock Crush subscription socks:

I am not following the pattern that came with the yarn as I found the pattern very busy with the yarn colouring.  I have opted for a picot cuff sock and a smooth but reinforced heel for the sock so that the yarn colours are able to show.

The yarn is a Sweet Georgia colour way and since I love the feel of these yarns I decided to take it with me for the trip in case I had time to start ☺

Now it's time to head off to bed as the real world resumes tomorrow....

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Second Time...

Good Evening Internet Friends.

Busy day today.  We spent the day walking  The Strip.  Feet are a bit sore now and I think we will all sleep soundly tonight.

Before we headed out today I did take my natural dyed indigo yarn out of the dye to dry.

Now the spare closet looks like:

I have to admit I kinda like my newly acquired skill :-)

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Something New!!!

Good Evening Internet Friends!!!

Life has been crazy busy for the past week and as such I have not had a chance to blog.

Last night we arrived in Las Vegas for Spring Break Vacation.  While en route I found out that Vogue Knitting Live was here this weekend!!!! :-)  Seriously...I come to Vegas and find YARN.

This morning I registered for a yarn dyeing class!  It was awesome!  Here is one of the yarns I dyed today:

I had so much fun making this.....and yes....I will be making more yarns!!!!!

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Saturday Crazy....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Woke up this morning still with pain in the kidney area but could still function so got on with my day!

Took my son to swimming and while there got a call from the house alarm company that the motion sensor had been set off!!!!  OMG.

Seemed to take forever for them to get back to me that they could not find anything wrong with the house.  Whew.....

Arrived home and found everything fine but I decided it was time to actually fix the front door lock.  So, I have now taught my son to fix door locks with a Phillips Screwdriver, a sock and a hiking shoe.   I could not find any of the very expensive tools that are owned in this household.  Thankfully I had a screwdriver hidden in my craft room.  The sock was to keep the door from getting scuffed while I used a steel heeled hiking shoe as a hammer!!!!  The door works great now.  I keep opening and closing it just cause I like the sound of the door opening ......and closing!  So proud of myself.

Since it was Saturday my son decided we should have pizza.  While making the dough I told him that the mom's group at church tomorrow would be making pizza pockets for their children's lunch.  Apparently my son had no idea what these things were.  So, we made a smaller pizza (it only had to feed two of us dinner) and made 6 pizza pockets:

Yummy!!!  Now hopefully I did not over stuff these and make too large for his wide mouth thermos☺

This evening I spent a bit of time in my craft room and made another 10 of the Anne of Green Gables Quilt Blocks from 4 Paws Quilting:

This now brings me to 22 of the 30 blocks for the quilt.  Hoping that I can finish it tomorrow as I really want to get it off to 4 Paws Quilting for the longarming portion of this ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

PD (Pretty Darn Fun) Day...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Today was a PD Day for my son.  After sleeping late and then eating breakfast we headed out for some FUN!

One of the first places we stopped was Donut Party!  We arrived a little late so our choices were limited.  We got a half dozen of Mint Rocky Road.  These doughnuts are HUGE!  The size of a newborn's head:

There are two left as we both ate one (I ate part of mine - my son at his and the rest of mine), we gave 2 to the neighbours and these will be breakfast (?) tomorrow...

We stopped at another place that is all about local made products and crafts and some yarn.....not much there.  I did buy a skein of yarn that was kind of pretty mostly because I felt sorry for the place.  No plans to go back there.

Then it was on to Zwick's Pretzels somehow I did not manage to get a plain picture without either my son or my face being stuffed with one of these, but they were DELICIOUS and I WILL go back there.

A quick stop at River City Yarns for their in house brand of worsted weight wool for a project I have decided I MUST do.

Then we headed home as my kidney stone was starting to bother me.

I had great intentions of finishing the Anne of Green Gables quilt kit that I got at 4 Paws Quilting as Sharon will be out doing a Pop Up Shop tomorrow.  Alas, because of the kidney pain I only accomplished 6 blocks today:

That will be all for this evening as I am medicating in advance as I really do not want to spend the night in the emergency. ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Cluckin' Along.....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Worked an evening shift this evening so by the time I got home there was not a lot of time for any kind of sewing.

I did however get another of the Flock of Geese Blocks done using up more of my scrap fabric:

Tomorrow is a PD Day for my son so he and I will be off on BIG adventures no doubt.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

One More...

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Super busy day today so after my son went to bed I took a little time to myself in my craft room.

Made another of the Anne of Green Gables blocks with the fabric I got from 4 Paws Quilting:

Now it's off to sleep for me as today will be another long day. ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Another One.....

Good Late Evening Internet Friends!

Tuesday is the craziest of days in our household so my quilting time is at a premium and sometimes non existent.

Tuesdays are get home from work, make dinner, get to piano lessons and Scuba Diving followed by returning home and getting the trash out for Trash Day tomorrow and all the other things for school and work tomorrow☺

After accomplishing these tasks this evening I only had time to make one of my Anne of Green Gables Quilt blocks with the fabric from 4 Paws Quilting:

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Are You Kidding Me????

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Most years I complain, gripe and whine in general about time change because deep down I believe that nothing good can come from this event.  Yesterday, I took it my stride and was positive and even productive.

Fast forward to today.... as I prepare to leave my house I find out that the door knob will not turn!!!!  I am truly stuck in my house no matter how hard I try to turn the knob.  I use the back door to go around to the front door and try from the outside!  It is seriously stuck.  My son on the inside and I on the outside try turning the door knob....NOTHING..

Now, I am running late for work and I begin the frantic search through the mystery box of random keys in the house to find a key for the back door....eventually I found one that sort of fits but you really have to wiggle to get the door to open.  Better than nothing so off to work!

After picking my son up from school we came home and thankfully gained entry through the back door.

I decided to unscrew the door knob and found that the slider piece was totally jammed inside which meant I had to use every tool including the butter knife to get it out.

Off to the hardware store to get some parts and we now have an operational front door and at least know where the key to the back door is!!!

That left very little crafting time.  I managed to make one more of my Anne of Green Gables blocks with the fabric from 4 Paws Quilting:

Now it's off to bed as tomorrow is another work day ☺

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

A 4 Paws Kind of Day....

Good Evening Internet Friends!

Today was slightly more productive than yesterday despite being time change day which usually wrecks havoc with my day and psyche.

I managed to get all the laundry washed, folded and put away!!!  YAY ME!!! ☺

House cleaning also done!  Bonus points here.....

Then I baked Andes Mint Chip Cookies.  I used the recipe on the package but I think for our dry Western Canadian climate next time I will add less flour than what the recipe calls for.  That being said though the cookies are still DELICIOUS:

The recipe made 52 cookies but as you can see a Cookie Monster found them.....

For dinner I made baked sweet potatoes topped with taco beef and toppings which is one of my son's favourite dinners:

He even eats the skin of the sweet potato when served this way .....Super Health Benefits...+++

After dinner I took kiddo and his horse dog for a walk in the -14 Celsius (7 Fahrenheit) temperature and with the windchill it was more like -27 Celsius (-17 Fahrenheit).  Returning home I even shovelled the side walk (I live on a corner lot so extra BONUS points for me for that)!!!!

After getting my son off to bed and organising lunches and such for tomorrow I took a bit of time to spend in my craft room.

As you likely know by now my dear friend and neighbour has started 4 Paws Quilting.  While I still quilt as hobby I now sometimes can request quilt things and or when she brings in new things I get to see and or try them out ☺  Plus her store hours are convenient for me.....I can show up with cookies and get in the door ☺

Yesterday I showed you the Anne Of Green Gables fabric I requested.  This evening I made 2 more blocks for the quilt:

I love how these are coming along.

This evening I also used another couple of items that I asked Sharon to stock at 4 Paws Quilting.  The Soak line of products.  I love the Scentless Flatter spray because it has NO fragrance.  The other scents are light and smell delicious but I am not sure how my asthma would react to the scent when using the iron.

What I love most about the spray is that when the block is complete I lightly mist the back side of the block, turn it over to press the seams and get PERFECT sized blocks!!!!

In addition to the spray I also asked for the Scentless Hand Cream.  It is very smooth on the hands after a day of household chores, being outside and working with fabric.

For my sewing this evening I also used another item from 4 Paws Quilting and that was a Pre Wound Bobbin.  When I first saw these I lazy do you have to be to not be able to wind a bobbin?  Recently Sharon convinced me to try a package of these.  I got 100 pre wound white bobbins for $25 (GST included)!!!  When I did the math I decided that at $0.25 a bobbin it might just be worth it...have rationalised that my stitching thread will last longer now. ☺

I sewed both of the above blocks tonight completely uneventfully.  Who would have thought that $0.25 of a bobbin would be so peaceful!  Another +++ for today.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend as well.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

Slow Start....

Good Late Evening Internet Friends!

I seem to be running in low gear today.  I have accomplished very little and at a slow speed on top of that ☺

Got my son to swimming lessons barely on time this morning (he was not too impressed with that).  Then did a couple of errands that were along our route and returned home early afternoon with all sorts of crafty plans.

I fell asleep knitting and from what I can deduce.....I "napped" for almost 2 hours!!!

After dinner I picked up my knitting but was having difficulty staying focused so decided to quilt a bit:

Meet Block # 1 of my Anne of Green Gables quilt of which I got the fabric brought in by special request of me from 4 Paws Quilting!  This block is currently 12 1/2" square.

This block as you may notice combines two of my favourite things:  Anne of Green Gables and my beloved Star Block!!!

I am seriously happy right now with this quilt block, but am tired so shall go to sleep.

Hope this inspires your own creativity...

All Cut Up....

Good Late Evening Internet Friends!

It is finally Friday!  Groceries were picked up at Costco this evening.  Laundry has been started all in an attempt to have some time to quilt this weekend.

As you may be aware .....I am a devoted fan of Anne of Green Gables!  Earlier in the year I found out that there was going to be Anne of Green Gables Fabric!!!!  I begged (seriously) my friend and neighbour Sharon of 4 Paws Quilting to bring in this fabric line.  She did (she really is an awesome friend - although secretly.....she hoped I would not find out about the fabric)!☺

I am so excited to make up this quilt as not only is it my favourite childhood but timeless story, it is also an integral part of our Canadian identity (and as you may that is kind of a BIG deal this year). ☺

Well, as of this evening I have now accomplished cutting up all the required pieces from the Fat Quarter Pack and the yardage (except the large borders):

As of right now I am planning for tomorrow to be a "Sew" What Day!!!!

Hope this inspires your own creativity...
